Another Supper Club Date!
Chefs London was another of the supper club invites I had courtesy of a competition run by Codorniu and the Culinary Guide. Rather luckily for me, they were holding their event in Fulham, though I still ended up in a cab to get there and get home! But that’s another story for another day.
Unlike the other events I’ve been to so far, this one was held in a private house. And so it was a much more intimate event, the other guests numbered just 7 and were a fun mix of arty and city types and we ate sitting round a table, in a spotless Kitchen!
This evening was a French themed event and our menu was spot on. We started with an amuse bouche of a bean puree before moving on to something I haven’t eaten since I WAS in France staying with a French family, Snails, here served on toast with wild mushroom cream. They were fabulous, not rubbery but really full of flavour and set the evening off with a ‘French’ feel. We went on to eat tartiflette, a rich mixture of potatoes cream and bacon and a dish that is commonly served in winter in the French Alps.
After that, I was quite grateful that our next course was a lighter version of the French classic bourguignon. I wouldn’t have anticipated it working, but it did, perfectly. Fillet of plaice ‘bourguignon’ with the traditional accompaniment of mushrooms, red wine sauce and shallots.
Then, in true French style, we had a small piece of cheese, Crotin chevignon before rounding the dinner off with Apple tarte tatin. You can always tell when I am enjoying myself a bit too much because the photos stop! I am just NOT a good blogger!!!!
It is lovely to have restaurant quality food in a home environment. And, I enjoy meeting new people and allowing the cook to decide on the menu! So far my supper club experiences have all rated a perfect 10 for me, though for slightly different reasons. Part of the joy of the events for me is in the diversity of food and of company. If you haven’t been to a supper club yet, please DO try. It’s an opportunity to have great food and meet new people in a relaxing environment…what could be better.
