OK, so things are getting a bit frantic now! You’ve got a special friend to buy something for…one of those people who already has EVERYTHING.
I was sent a lovely bottle of Appleton Estate Rum to test a week or so ago…and with it came a recipe.
Hot Rum And Jerry Cocktail
A delicious alcoholic spin on the eggnog
50ml Appleton Estate V/X
2 tsp granulated sugar
1 whole medium egg
Pinch of All Spice
Cinnamon stick + grated nutmeg for garnish
Mix all ingredients in a saucepan and heat gently until frothy. Whisk like crazy while you heat the mixture up until you have a warm drink, then grate some nutmeg on top and serve with a cinnamon stick.
I’ve just tried making it up and got a get a lovely frothy mix with a real kick. I used the bottle of Appleton Estate Jamaican Rum that I was sent, a hand blended an estate distilled rum that adds a unique richness to winter dishes. I particularly like using dark rum in Christmas cooking and winter cocktails, it has a buttery depth that you don’t get from white rum. You might remember I used it to make some lovely rum butter too, which is in the fridge waiting for more mince pies and Christmas pudding!
So my gift suggestion is how about a pretty box with a little pack of spices – cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg, a bottle of Appleton Estate Rum and the recipe above written out in a Christmas Card. Simple, but personal!
You can buy Appleton Estate Rum from all major supermarkets for just under £20 …or if you are feeling particularly benevolent, Harrods sell a 30 year old limited edition for just under £400!
