Kate at Kate takes 5 has started a great blogger listography, for top 5 blogging tips! I’m quite a new blogger, so just how useful mine are remains to be seen. But for what it’s worth
- Try to meet as many bloggers in real life as soon as you can. If you are not in a position to network in real life use resources like UKFBA (for food bloggers). There are a real community of friendly people out there…and they will tell you more in 5 minutes than you will learn online in 5 hours.
- Write about things you are passionate about. Don’t worry who is going to read it. Your passion is what will make it work
- Don’t get too distracted by the techie things. To start off with keep things simple, you can add more gizmos as it goes.
- Remember you are meant to be having fun! If it gets to be an obligation, you might want to consider why you are doing it.
- Do comment on others blogs. It’s nice when someone comments on yours…so remember and comment where you can!
There
That’s! it!!!

It’s a good list Fiona
lol well thank you for pointing me in the direction of the listography…I had fun thinking up my 5 reasons!
It has meant a lot to me to meet other bloggers and gives me a sense of being in a community rather than working on my own. I have been to two blogging conferences, one in the US Food Blog Camp 11 and one in the UK Food Blogger Connect 11. I have kept in touch with many of the people I met and I learned t a lot about the art of blogging in the process.
agreed angela…and made some friends who I hope will be lasting ones too!
Just how I feel Fiona. Keep it simple and be yourself.
Wonderful tips and I really like numbers 2 and 3.
I am really hoping to finally meet some bloggers in the flesh. I am sure it will be great to do so.
well, I’ve now been to a few blogger events ranging from drinks and nibbles in central london through to a mini conference in Birmingham and a rather splendid lunch this saturday at the ship in Wandsworth. If you are london based, email me and I’ll let you know when I’m going to something…fiona (at) london-unattached (dot) com
I’ve just joined the UKFBA. I’ll have to go and get one of those linky badge thingies to display
welcome to UKFBA then, really worth posting your blogs up – it’s how I’ve started to get to know people!
Yep agree with all of those. I remember when I started looking at other blogs and wondering how I would ever know how to do x, y and z – but you do learn. No need to know everything straight away.
I think that’s the biggest issue – panic over how to find out/learn what to do first!
Thanks for a great way of networking!!!
Good tips – I’m going to BlogCamp UK and can’t wait to meet other bloggers for the first time
have fun;) thats one I’m not doing but so far everything I’ve been to has been fabulous!
“having fun” – yes, more people should remember than. Great tips!
I REALLY like the tip on meeting up with other bloggers in real life. This has made a huge difference to my readership. For example, when my blog was hacked for two months last year I still had an easy correspondence and connection with many of my followers through the slightly more tenuous social media platforms because we had the extra ‘bond’(?) of having met face to face.
Great list!!
Thanks for popping over and good to *meet* you
