Tigga Towers

Tigga Towers – The Ultimate Penthouse for Cats:

No, I haven’t given the cats away, but I have had the chairs reupholstered.  And, in an effort to stop the cats using them as a nice, new scratching post, I’ve invested in an uber-cat tree – a two tier creation with hemp bound posts and wicker baskets – in the hopes that Lena and Micha will use that rather than the HUMAN furniture.

My tigga tower arrived for self-assembly beautifully packaged up.  As promised it wasn’t that tricky to assemble and I didn’t need any special equipment.  I’d recommend getting someone along to help because the poles are quite heavy and need to be carefully positioned and bolted into place.  But, I managed by myself (with some cursing!) and so far even my big boy Micha (who weighs in at over 7kg right now) hasn’t managed to topple anything over.

Micha on Tower

I’m seriously impressed.  I first saw Tigga Towers at the National Pet Show and almost bought one on the spot because they are considerably more robust than any of the other cat trees I’ve seen on the market.  And, when they are in a good mood, Lena and Micha both sit happily in the baskets.  For the first time in his life, Micha has got somewhere to stretch out and scratch properly.  And, Lena is happy that she can sleep, wake, scratch and sleep again, all without having to move more than a few inches.  Occasionally we have little territory wars…a bit like children, they both want the top bunk…and whoever is in the top basket taunts the ‘lower’ cat mercilessly

The cushions in the baskets are lovely and soft and apparently washable (though I haven’t tried doing so yet).  And the colour scheme of the whole tower is quite neutral.

All in, my investment in what is a real piece of furniture for cats seems to have worked.  So far for the most part they DO use the scratching poles and ignore my nice newly upholstered antiques. I think the hemp may be a nicer material for them to use.

So, I’d recommend a tigga tower, if like me you have indoor cats and furniture that you need to protect.  Try to go and see the towers in person – it’s really hard to get an idea of just how substantial they are until you see them in real life.  And, remember, you can build on from whatever you buy as your starter tower .

You can find out more about Tigga Towers from their website, which also has a schedules of shows where they will be on display.
