Flahavan’s Organic Oats Giveaway and a Better Breakfast:

This giveaway seems particularly appropriate during my War Time ration week as I am eating porridge for breakfast and flapjack for ‘dessert’.  And I have to say I am rather enjoying both.  While oats are a very economical way ingredient (and one that was never rationed during the war), they have a lovely nutty taste.

Why are Oats such a good idea?  well,

Porridge has the highest protein content of all cereals.

It’s an idea food for slimmers – low in calories but filling.

Oats can help to stabilise blood sugars – reducing the risk of type II diabetes

Eating porridge helps the brain to produce serotonin. Serotonin is a brain transmitter that helps keep our spirits up and our appetites down. Levels of serotonin dip when sunlight is low – i.e. during the winter months and can frequently lead to Seasonal Affective Disorder.

  3. I love oatmeal for breakfast, especially during the winter. It warms you up while filling you up :)

  4. I tolerate oatmeal with apples and cinnamon. Cheerios is my favorite cold cereal. I can even choke down a few oatmeal cookies (though more fond of chocolate chip). My wife recently purchased a 42 oz tub of the stuff. It will probably last until Armageddon. I couldn’t imagine “winning” more. ;o

  6. Warm porridge is my fab way to enjoy oats. It’s a lovely comforting breakfast treat to ease you into the day :)

    I make baked oatmeal with apples and raisins for a breakfast treat!

  19. I LOVE making crock pot steel cut oats. Dump everything in the night before and you have hot oats for breakfast and enough leftovers for the rest of the week!

    My gran used to roll her fish in oats then cook it and its really good still makes me it when i go and visit.

    mix oatmeal, nuts, raisins, seeds etc to your own recipe to make a luxury muesli for a fraction of the cost of posh Knesset.

    I’m a big fan of porridge, love it for breakfast but also in cookies. It gives cookies a lovely texture and a great taste too

    I just love porridge with sultanas and brown sugar sprinkled on top

  51. I adore Flahavans jumbo porridge oats! (I haven’t tried any of their other products though!) At the moment, my favourite way to eat them is to turn them into chocolatey granola clusters which we then eat for breakfast with milk, or for dessert with yoghurt. Delicious!
