Urban Art to Support Art for Africa.
OK here’s a Christmas gift idea if you really want to splash out a bit and like the idea of helping a good charity at the same time.
On Tuesday 11 December, Dreweatts’ Maddox Street salerooms are hosting the last Urban Art Auction this year. There are 104 lots on offer, with pieces from renown artists like Banksy, Damien Hirst and Andy Warhol. And, of the items up for auction, 18 have been created especially by the artists for the Art for Africa project to raise money for the Malawi charity Temwa, Every penny of the sale proceeds from those lots goes directly to the charity!
So, you could end up with something splendid on your wall and help Temwa’s works to support the people of northern Malawi – one of the most disadvantaged and remote rural regions in the world. Through community-led projects in agriculture, forestry, vocational skills training, health education and schools support, Temwa works to provide the resources for the people of Malawi to become self-sufficient. Over 15% of their annual income comes from Art events like the auction on the 11th December!
Previews are taking place from 11.00am on Sunday 9 December, 9.30am on Monday 10 December and 9.30am on Tuesday 11 December, prior to the auction. A charity reception hosted by Temwa is taking place at 18.00 on Monday 10 December.
