Belle Epoque Valentine’s Ball

Valentine’s Day – Love It or Hate It?

A bit like Marmite – Valentine’s Day divides the world into those who love and those who hate and think it’s over commercialised rubbish! How about you? Something you anticipate every year?  An excuse for a romantic evening with someone special or the chance to drop a subtle or not so subtle hint to that person you’ve had your eye on for a while.  Or perhaps all those hearts and flowers just leaves you feeling a bit nauseous and you’d really rather do something more exciting.

Well, Belle Epoque aim to please both the lovers and haters of Valentine’s Day with their Circus themed Ball on Saturday 16th February 2013 at The Grand Hall.  Free your inhibitions and release your alter-ego in a fantasy world filled with illusion and indulgence, danger and delight.   You’ll find  brooding heroes, enchanting courtesans and star-crossed lovers mingling under the velvet draped big top.

Throughout the evening, the finest acrobatic acts from across Europe will draw an intake of amazed breath from the audience as aerialists and trapeze artists twist and turn from the ceiling. Daring dancers dazzle as heady cocktails tantalise. Survey the stage from the intimate curtained areas on the mezzanine level, or pay a visit to the boudoir for a lesson in costume make up.

The dress code is strict, but  creative:   Delve into the dressing up box of your mind and pluck out a costume. Ladies – be it heartbroken damsel or sequinned seductress, tulle twirled ballerina or callous femme fatale, aim for embellished masks and luxurious bodices. Gentlemen, think Byronic heroes and louche lotharios. The aim is devilish and dashing, with an air of mystique. Suave hats, dark sweeping cloaks and crisp tailcoats are advised.

If you love Valentine’s Day, then think of it as a special way to celebrate.  And if you hate it, well, this particular Valentine’s Day event really should take your mind off red roses and arrow pierced hearts.
