Sunshine and a Cuban Beach Party at Floridita London
I managed to miss the opening of Floridita’s pop-up Rum Shack bar on 1st February, though my friend Simon has a review of the Rum Shack opening party on by-invitation. And I’m still looking for the right opportunity to pop along and try one of their rum based cocktails – at Floridita they have the most extensive selections of rums in Europe, so I suspect I’ll be spoilt for choice! The idea is that you can to enjoy a Cuban ‘beach shack’ inspired drinking experience right in the centre of London. Whatever the weather!
While much of Soho is decked out in New York Warehouse styling, the Rum Shack walls, made of reclaimed wood, are accented by vintage neon lights, palm trees, rum barrel tables, retro signage, flags and fishing nets. A much livelier place for a fabulous drinking experience – if only they could bring the Cuban sunshine too!
Tucked away under the restaurant’s iconic sweeping staircase, the new space pays homage to the vibrant culture of Cuba and Latin America. It’s the sort of place where you’ll soon find yourself smiling, even if it’s grey and miserable outside.
With seating around the edge of the Floridita Rum Shack bar, there’s live music to enjoy while you sip on one of Floridita’s fabulous rum cocktails. How about a Hemingway Punch: a delicious blend of Barcardi Superior and Maraschino Liqueur or the lethal sounding In a Barrel: a concoction of absinthe, gomme, lemon & orange juice, shaken with Pussers Blue Rum and served in a barrel vessel – or to really bring a smile to your face a Cheeky Monkey: a blend made using Chairman’s Reserve served in a tiki glass
Best of all, it’s open until 3am every night. Perfect if you want to party (almost) all night long.
