New 28-50 Wine Workshop and Kitchen, Mayfair:
While I make no claim to be an expert I do like good wine. And so I’m very happy to hear of a new opening in Maddox Street, Mayfair. There are already a couple of 28-50 restaurants in Marylebone and Fetter Lane, but I haven’t been to either. And, despite sometimes appearing to have eaten in every restaurant in London I also haven’t been to Texture, the Michelin starred restaurant where Xavier Rousset and Agnar Sverrisson first established their presence on the London food scene.
The idea behind 28-50 is to provide a more informal setting with more than 30 wines available by the glass. The new opening in Maddox Street will also feature a champagne bar with 40-50 champagnes on offer.
It’s not opening until 16th September, so although there will be terraces to the front and rear where you can dine al fresco, I suspect it might just be a bit too chilly for my taste! But all the same, the mixture of classic French bistro food, good wine by the glass and a relaxed but luxurious setting sounds good to me.
I’ll be visiting.
