Fab First Fridays – a Linky and some Blog Love:
I wonder how many of the people reading this also write a blog. If you are one of them, do you sometimes wonder why you write?
- Perhaps you are passionate about food?
- Love cooking?
- Love travel and exploring new places
- Into fashion and beauty?
- Maybe you are an avid bookworm who likes to share the best new books out there?
- Or perhaps you are incredibly proud of your family and love sharing their antics?
And of course there are many, many more reasons to blog. For a while, one of my favourite blogs was this one written by Carrie, an American newly wed, which I came across by chance. It just made me giggle every time I read about her struggles with life as a newly wed. I guess she’s just got a bit busy and isn’t writing right now.
The blogosphere is full of diversity, full of passionate people and a treasure trove of precious ideas and information.
In my case, I started blogging because I wanted to understand how ‘Social Media’ worked. Two years ago, blogging seemed like a big part of that – and a good place to start. Very early on, I won a place to Food Blogger Connect, although I certainly didn’t (and still don’t) see myself as a food blogger. It was full of awesome people who produced fantastic food and amazing photos. I still struggle with my own food photography – my biggest weakness is styling – I usually want to EAT rather than take photos and in any case I am not the tidiest cook! I’ve carried on writing recipes and occasionally taking part in challenges – but, for me, that is often a REAL challenge.
I hardly ever bake. I’m trying to lose weight so I don’t want to make dishes that are high in calorie – and, of I eat out a lot. Originally I’d planned to write about my London lifestyle, but I started writing restaurant reviews for another publication – so at times that side of London-Unattached seems to take over! I’ve discovered I love travel writing – and blogging lets me do more and more of that. The overseas trips are wonderful, but I’ve also enjoyed trips much, much closer to home. And, it seems to me that the world of travel blogging has quite a different dynamic to food blogging.
So, my blog is an eclectic mixture of things that interest me and that I hope will interest my readers. And, what frustrates me sometimes is that the important things, the posts I really want people to read, get lost!
Meanwhile I’ve been thinking about ‘Community’ a lot. My rather muddled blog means I hop across a number of different communities. But I love it. I love the diversity and the great posts I find. Travel blogs I’d never have read because they focus on a region I’m not planning to visit, recipe blogs with truly amazing creations, lifestyle blogs that just make me sigh. And what I’d like to do is invite everyone – whatever blogging niches they belong to, to join me in this sharing Linky.
My idea is that if we all link up ONE post that we have done in the last month that is special or significant, or one that is particularly good, we’ll have an amazing set of posts to read. It’s your chance to let the blogging community know about something that is special to you!
So, the rules for this linky are as follows.
- Pick your favourite post from your own blog during July and add that to the linky. It can be anything – a cake you made, a place you’ve visited, some wonderful photography. Something YOU think is special.
- If you want to, leave me a comment below and let everyone know what makes it special.
- Edit your linked up post to add the ‘Fab First Friday’ badge so that other readers can join in.
- Link back to this page for Fabulous First Fridays
- Try to read one or two posts from others who have linked up. Comment on or tweet about their post if you like it. The hashtag #FabFirstFriday – I’d love you to spread the word!
I’m going to leave the Linky open until 15th August – right in the middle of the month – because I’d like to give everyone a chance to link up and comment. But remember to link up something you posted in July!
And, I’ll try to make sure I comment/stumble/tweet the posts linked up. I’m looking forward to reading your #FabFirstFriday Posts!
