Win a Slica just like this!
Mea Culpa. A month or so ago I was sent a ‘MASHA’ to review. As the name might suggest it’s an electric potato masher. Which I rather fancied because, if you try to use a stick blender to mash your potatoes you will end up with something resembling wallpaper paste (the starches get released and make it go all gunky). The only snag is that during the summer I hardly ever make any kind of mashed vegetable. So it’s still sitting in its box waiting to be tested.
Meanwhile, the company got in contact to find out what I thought and I had to guiltily explain I hadn’t actually used it yet. And, instead of being grumpy (which they had a perfect right to be), they simply offered me a Slica – ‘much more appropriate for the Summer’. And then, they went on to suggest I reviewed it AND ran a giveaway too. Hurrah!
The Slica is a relatively small countertop electric machine that works very much in the same way that an old fashioned mincer used to work, although it ISN’T intended to mince meat. It’s incredibly easy to put together and the parts are dishwasher safe. And, it grates cheese and vegetables and slices wafer thin slivers of whatever you feed it.
I had a go with some cucumber
And then I decided to grate a block of cheese that really needed to be frozen rather than left to rot in the fridge. The cheese was just slightly soft, the sort that is really hard to grate by hand. The machine did a PERFECT job of working through the rather gunky cheese so that I could pop it in the freezer.
So I’m impressed. A few reservations – it would be oh so nice if it was up to processing cooked and raw meat. And the little nesting blades tend to get stuck together, which can be a bit fiddly.
But other than that, the Slica is one of those kitchen utensils I really do think I’ll use fairly regularly. It’s very compact and it does all the things my stick blender doesn’t do. So, it means I simply don’t need a food processor.

I DO check that entries have been done properly, so please don’t take shortcuts or you could get disqualified. Meanwhile if you want one ANYWAY, you should be able to find them on sale at Argos for around £29.99
