It’s all about Paper for Remy Savage – Bombay Sapphire’s winner!
I’m just learning a little about the ‘World’s Most Imaginative Bartender’ competition from Bombay Sapphire which finished on 13th June 2014. Amazingly the event took place over six days, partly in London and partly in the home of Bombay Sapphire’s soon to open distillery at Laverstoke Mill, Hampshire. There were fourteen finalists from around the world who had reached their place in the global final by winning against a total of 3,500 competing bartenders.
Judges included Alex Kratena, the head bartender at the Langham and Hamish Smith, the Editor of ‘The Worlds 50 Best Bars’ and Drinksint.com. Remy Savage, from Paris, France is this year’s winner and has been awarded prizes worth £10,000. His award includes a sapphire stone pin and a partnership with Virgin Atlantic to create a new signature cocktail.
What amazes me most is the simplicity of Remy’s winning cocktail ‘Paper Anniversary’ which contains just three ingredients – 45ml of Bombay Sapphire, 15ml of Homemade Paper Syrup and a dash of salt solution. Simply stir together and serve for an award winning drink!
Mind you, there’s clearly a secret recipe in the home-made paper syrup, linking back to the history of Laverstoke Mill
