My Best Summer Ever:
I’ve been challenged by Malibu to share with you the top five things that would make this my best summer ever. I can remember one of my friends saying to me
Be careful what you wish for, because things have a habit of coming true
Certainly all my life that seems to have happened. Is it a quirky twist of fate? Karma? Or am I just very lucky?
Needless to say, my wishes DO involve travel. And food. What else would you expect?
Firstly I want to go to India. It’s a vast country and I can’t take the whole summer off, so I’m going to be happy enough with the three days I’m spending in Chennai and hopefully Pondicherry. I’m really quite excited – I have no idea what to expect because every time I ask anyone I am told ‘It’s another World’.
Secondly, I really want to go somewhere special with my God Daughter. Last year we went to Barcelona. This year I’d like to take her to Salamanca. She’s studying languages and Salamanca is on her own short-list. I’ve been already – but only for one night and not for over fifteen years. This time I’d like to share the magic of a very special part of Spain with her. Why? well, it’s somewhere to go and play at being a princess – on the Spanish/Portuguese borders the area is littered with fantastic castles that, of course, were originally built to defend the Spanish Borders. When Catherine was tiny we used to play at being Princesses. I REALLY don’t see why that’s a habit either of us should have to grow out of! How about staying here for example:
Thirdly I want to sell my flat and move. And then have the best moving in party ever – I want to get friends who I haven’t seen for years to come along and enjoy some food, drink and music. I want to rekindle some old flames and actually find out what people have been doing.
My fourth wish is all about me. It’s summer and I really want to be outdoors. I want to go to one of those beach spa hotels where you can combine lazing about in the sun with getting fit and being pampered. Hotel Caravelle in Diano Marina in Liguria, Italy looks about right for me. I won’t need long – just a weekend would be perfect.
Finally, it has to be Paris. I love doing Paris in style – and August is the perfect month because the City tends to be quiet. I’d travel out by Eurostar – with an upgrade of course. Arriving just in time for a light lunch I’d make my way to the Sixieme and sit and watch the world go by at Les Deux Magot Time for a visit to my favourite museum the Musee D’Orsay; I love the place not just because it has one of the best collection of French Impressionist paintings in the world but also because the building of the museum is fabulous. It looks out over the Seine, an old railway station that was opened as an art gallery in 1986, with the express purpose of bringing together the great national collections of art. I’d stay overnight in one of the chic boutique hotels of the Seventh arrondissement and spend the next day just browsing the shops and cafes and walking along the Seine. Then back on the train.
Now it’s your turn. Remember that video at the start of this post – it’s all part of a wonderful initiative by Malibu to help us all have the Best Summer Ever. Just make your list and you could well be in with a chance of the Best Summer Ever too!
