Custom made chocolate bars from Chocolat Chocolat.
Guest review by Sarah James:
I have to admit to being a bit of a chocolate snob, whilst not an expert in any sense, I really dislike a lot of mass produced chocolate. Some just tastes synthetic, some is far too sweet, and some seems to lack the basic quantities of cocoa needed to give it the taste that I want. So I am a woman who can ‘take or leave’ vast amounts of what’s on offer on the high street. Take me to Belgium though, and that’s a different matter!
So to be offered the chance to create my own bars seemed the perfect way to see if I could do better! I had the opportunity to choose a milk, dark, white or caramel chocolate bar base and then combine it with a wide variety of toppings. The process was very easy; I just chose the intensity of the bars and the site offered suggestions about what flavours would work well. Incredibly, the range of bases and toppings can create up to 200,000 different combinations – plenty of opportunities for chocolate lovers to tease their taste buds. I choose the following bars.
1st bar dark 70% with orange and chilli.
2nd bar dark 55% with strawberry and pink pepper.
3rd bar caramel 34% with praline and sea salt.
The bars can take up to 3 days to make, and are then posted out, along with a lovely note to say who made them.
We (I did share!) started with the caramel praline and sea salt. I expected to like this the least, but it actually turned out to be my favourite. Just delicious!
The strawberry and pink pepper was subtle with lovely pieces of dried strawberries and a just a hint of the pepper.
The dark bar with the orange and chilli was again a triumph. Chilli chocolate can either be too tame or overpowering; this one with the addition of the orange got it just right.
Bars can be created and ordered from the website for £14.95. http://www.chocolatchocolat.co.uk/shop/create-your-own-bar/3-x-custom-bars/
