The Prince Albert – Notting Hill
The Prince Albert is a pub with a split personality. Upstairs is the renowned The Gate fringe theatre but on the ground floor is a boozer artfully put together in a beach shack style with Weathered shutters, murals and neon art and serving London brews from Camden and Meantime alongside US ‘hits’ like Brooklyn lager and Goose Island 312.
However the food offer is strictly from across the Atlantic and is marketed under the ‘Ruby Jean’s’ brand giving it a distinctive diner feel. Lubricated by a melony bottle of the Aussie Scribble Verdelho we started with the sharing Veggie Board from the snack and share menu.
With hummus and spinach sliders, fried Halloumi, vegetable tempura, nachos, chipotle jam, guacamole and sour cream dips it was a generous plateful of veggie treats.
Hot & Kickin Chicken came with a deliciously creamy Buttermilk batter creamy and a spicy hot sauce and good fries.
Mac ‘N Cheese Forager with roasted mushroom was a take on the Italian diner classic. For me the cheese sauce could have been richer with the mushrooms being a bit limp.
I’d never had Fried Pickles before. What a great idea!
Onion Rings were served in a very generous portion.
Coleslaw was fresh and crunchy with a tasty mayo.
Since we were now very full it would have been churlish not to order desserts all of which were chocolate based.
The Threesome was a plateful of chocolate brownies, cookies and ice cream and a delicious salted caramel and chocolate tart.
It was totally indulgent!
As well as the pub’s interior it has a secret’ garden for long lazy summer evenings. Open from breakfast and with a Daily Bread’ lunchtime sandwich selection including the Homemade Fish Finger with tartare or Chicken Caesar Sandwich The Prince Albert is really about all-day dining.
And with a selection of chicken wings, Fried Chicken and a thirteen-strong selection of burgers including Beef, Sriracha Hot Sauce & Coriander Slaw or Shroomaloomi with Flat Mushrooms & Grilled Halloumi carnivores are well catered for. So if you are looking for a slice of Americana in Notting Hill The Prince Albert is your best bet.
