Christmas Gifts for Foodies:
While it might seem churlish to complain, in the run-up to Christmas sometimes things just get a little overwhelming. Various packages arrive for review almost simultaneously with an influx of Christmas events, festive teas and special menus. And of course, I try my best to do a little seasonal cooking – ahead of time so that the recipes can be shared in time for anyone who happens to want to make a Christmas Yule Log or Christmas Ice-Cream, or ways to use up those left-over scraps of Christmas turkey.
In the meantime, there are a couple of stand-out products which I was sent to review this year and which would make a great Christmas gift for a Food Lover.
For me this year, one of those was a box from the Carnivore Club. My own selection was a collection of salami and chorizo from The Bath Pig. I had a few friends over the other day and we tried three out of the box. What was most striking was that each one of these tasted unique. I particularly like the red wine and fennel salami with it’s sweet aniseed notes and the wonderfully spicy chorizo. The Carnivore Club is a subscription club where you can sign up for one month or more with prices starting at £29 a month. My box came with a selection of salami and chorizo, all with three to six month shelf life.
There’s also a Christmas crate – a selection of artisan meats – priced at £85. Although it’s too late to get a delivery in time for Christmas, if you order now, they will email you a gift certificate in time for the big day.
My second choice is something from Craved, the artisan food supplier. I’ve been sent a whole host of things to try by them and I have to admit, the only thing I’ve actually eaten is the chocolate. But, what really stands out for me about Craved is the beautiful packaging for an assortment of things that you’d simply struggle to buy in the shops.
They’ve also got a rather stunning collection of Christmas hampers – a far cry from the standard jars of strawberry jam and pickled onions with a caddy of English Breakfast Tea. I particularly like Christmas Bites. What’s really nice about Craved though is that you CAN put together your own selection of goodies – and they have a next day delivery service. Perfect for that all important present that needs to be personalised but that you haven’t quite got round to buying (you can tell I’m talking from experience here).
It’s not too late to get that perfect Christmas gift for a foodie in place. And even if you DO run out of time – I suspect the foodie in your life would love either of these at any time of the year!
