Fun and Feasting at Cinnamon Kitchen for Holi 2016:
Every year Cinnamon Kitchen sets up a play pod in Devonshire Square for their Holi celebrations. There’s special food and drink and the opportunity to play with paint!
I love the stunning coloured cocktails. Holi is the festival of colour – to announce the arrival of spring, though it might not feel like that in London right now.
And, it’s hard to resist this kind of food.
Everyone really does need to get dressed up…
Though, it’s tempting to keep eating because there are still plenty of pani puri.
Once things get going, you need to stand well back because, even if you are holding a microphone, you might just get covered.
Some people just get carried away…
By the end of the 30-minute play session, it’s a riot of colour
And the boss, chef Vivek Singh, is perhaps the most colourful of all
Everyone gets cleaned up then sits down to a special Holi feast. After amuse bouche we enjoyed a choice of starters. My spiced seabream with green mango and coconut chutney was both colourful and delicious. The fish was perfectly cooked, firm and flakey and the spicing was delicate enough not to overwhelm the dish.
Then a delicate thandai sorbet palate cleanser.
I picked the jhinga mali king prawns in coconut and cardamom sauce with ghee rice for my main course. Lovely plump prawns in a creamy cardamom laced sauce – perhaps not the ‘slimming’ seafood I’d planned to choose but utterly delicious all the same.
Then, what we were told were traditional sweets for Holi – a carrot halwa spring role, gulab jamun and a tiny portion of mango kulfi scattered with gold leaf.
Holi at Cinnamon Kitchen runs from 4th – 12th March 2016. You can enjoy the special three course set menu for £30 per person or better still, book a play session and a feast for £38. For £15, you can enjoy a cocktail and canapes as well as a play session, or if you REALLY don’t want any food, a 30-minute session in the Pod is £8.
So, why not find a time to let off steam – and then reward yourself with some stunning food.
