Summer comes to the Terrace at Royal Horseguards Hotel:
You know summer has arrived when you get an invitation for “cocktails on the terrace”. Sadly for me the sun had well and truly taken his hat off on the evening in question and it was under a very grey sky that I headed over to the opening of the outdoor Terrace at the Royal Horseguards hotel. The weather may not have been playing ball but with the terrace decked in large canopies and patio heaters, you are guaranteed to stay warm and dry. There are also blankets draped over the wicker furniture to keep you extra snug as the evening goes on.
The Royal Horseguards hotel is a beautiful building (built in 1884 in the style of a French château) in Whitehall Place (less than a 5 minute walk from Embankment tube). The Terrace is situated alongside Whitehall Gardens and is extremely pretty and floral. Even though Whitehall Gardens is a public space, we felt very secluded on the terrace and the space reminded me of one of those private garden squares you find in rather exclusive addresses in London.
Should you wish to throw a private party or reception, the Terrace is available for private hire. You can take a small area for a minimum spend of £20 per person or the whole space for a minimum spend of £1,500. The Terrace is also launching a special menu with a selection of mezze (flat breads, humus, olives etc) and a range of cooked food from the BBQ. The mini burgers with gruyere cheese (or sliders as they are more fashionably known these days) were my particular favourite. Food and drink packages are also available, which can include ‘Terrace Jugs’ of Pimms, Sangria, Watermelon Gin Punch and Kiwi Blueberry Mojitos and ‘Terrace Tubs’ filled with bottles of beer, ale or cider. A selection of wines and Champagnes are also available.
On our evening there was also live music. All-in-all I think this would be a great place to host a summer party or team building event (whatever the weather)!
