Gin in a Storm at Gaucho Canary Wharf:
We were excited at the prospect of gin cocktails on the terrace of the very glamorous Gaucho by the pier at Canary Wharf; but June in England is always risky, and on the evening of the event, the skies turned grey and then issued a downpour of rain. Plan B was put into action, and our soon-to-be merry bunch of bloggers settled into the bar area to partake of the No. TEN Citrus cocktails which are only available at this location.
Lisa opted for ‘Peach and Green tea’ made with Tanqueray No. TEN, green tea syrup, sweet peach, and lemon juice all topped with soda. Whilst I chose the official Gaucho cocktail of the Tanquerary gin, grapefruit, orange and lime, juniper, a hint of pepper all topped up with a Fever Tree tonic water. Both were long and refreshing drinks, perfect accompaniments to a warm summer evening. We both preferred my drink, finding the Peach cocktail a little sweet for our particular tastes.
We were treated to a variety of snacks that will be available on the Citrus Terrace. These included a selection of breads, empanadas (the spinach and cheese one was particularly delicious), cured meats, meaty sausages, and the star of the show – the spiral of beef fillet, which is one of Gaucho’s signature dishes. The quality of the meat was stunning, it was very tender, and seasoned to perfection.
The terrace will be open until the end of summer. As Lisa lives in Canary Wharf, we are in danger of becoming regulars! All of the Gaucho group restaurants run regular events so it’s worth checking to see what is in your own area if Canary Wharf is the wrong side of town for you.
