Battle Proms with Branston Pickle
Guest post by Selena Jones:
Summer isn’t over just yet and I say we stretch it out as long as possible. This Saturday, August 13th was the last chance to attend Battle Proms this year. Battle Proms is a picnic concert series held at the UK’s most fantastic stately homes. Just this last week Highclere Castle, otherwise know as Downton Abbey, was the scene for the Summer celebration and I went along to see what all the fuss was about.
More than 10,000 revelers came together with “hampers & champers” to enjoy a day of music, choreographed aerial displays, cannons and cavalry. You haven’t really experienced Beethoven’s Battle Symphony until you’ve heard it as was originally intended with the booming percussion of 193 actual cannons. The night ended with fireworks and a flag-waving singalong, the only way to end a Proms in the park experience.
It’s not a British picnic without the tang of Branston Pickle. Branston was gracious enough to sponsor our attendance at the event. They were there to make sure everyone got a taste of their classic British pickle, relishes and table sauces. Since 1922, Branston Pickle is still made with the in the traditional way with their own secret recipe.
It’s too late to purchase tickets for this year’s Battle Proms. If you have missed out this year, be sure to follow Battle Proms on facebook and twitter. Next year they are celebrating their 20th Anniversary and it will be bigger than ever. There’s plenty of time to squeeze in a few more Summer picnics this year. So, why not get in some picnic practise for next year’s proms. Be sure to check out everything that Branston has to offer.
