Mediterranean Dining at the Artisan Bistro
The other evening I found myself in fashionable Chelsea, dining at the Artisan Bistro. With a bright and airy interior, this is a very modern restaurant which appears to be a new favourite with the glamorous local residents. In fact, we were told that the Made in Chelsea cast had been in attendance the night before our visit, so this is clearly the new place in which to see and be seen.
The food is a mixture of Mediterranean cuisine and you can either share a selection of small plates or use these as a starter and then opt for a larger plate for a main course. I was slightly disappointed to find that the menu on the evening we attended, was a little more limited than what was shown on the website. Perhaps the Made in Chelsea lot eat more than you would think!
As we perused the menu we were given a selection of marinated olives, anchovies, toasted bread and olive oil. I think this is a nice accompaniment to an Aperitif and it had us feeling we were in Portugal rather than London.
To start we decided to share the calamari and the crispy aubergine dishes. For “small plates” the portions were very generous and the ingredients perfectly fresh and cooked very well.
To accompany our food we chose the Gavi de Gavi from the well stocked wine list. The list covers some lovely wines from all corners of France, Italy and Spain. What we also thought was a nice touch was the special “tasting” glass you are asked to sample the wine from before it is poured.
For a main course I chose the lobster linguine, served on black linguine with Prosecco and truffle butter. However, I must confess that I found the sauce a little watery for my palate and I was glad of the large mussels served in their shell, which gave the dish a little more flavour.
I actually had food envy, as my friend’s grilled whole lobster from the special’s menu looked fantastic and was apparently as tasty as it looked.
Again the portions were very generous and you certainly won’t leave feeling hungry. For those with room, there is also a selection of homemade desserts including the ever popular tiramisu.
The Artisan seems very popular and was buzzing with diners as we left. I have to say the staff were very helpful and friendly and I was especially impressed by our waiter who went out into the street and flagged down a taxi for our journey home.
