Jam Tree Clapham
I’d always thought of Jam Tree as a cool little spot for some fun cocktails after work or for weekend mayhem! But, I’d never been there to eat, so I was excited for what they had in store when I was invited to sample the menu at the Clapham branch.
Upon entering, it looks very cosy and intimate – dimly lit with romantic candlelight at each table. Very comforting, after all no one wants garish bright light when you plan on stuffing your face!
For starters we shared the paneer and the wings. These were fabulous.
The paneer was spongy in texture (as it should be) and was accompanied by some crispy potato chunks and blobs of a spicy mushed pea paste.
The wings had a strong tangy marinade and were just as wings should be – sticky and messy.
For mains we shared the burger and a steak. The burger was fine, no complaints. But if I’m completely honest, nothing about it grabbed me either. The steak seemed quite fatty, but that may well have just been the piece that happened to fall on my plate. And, another time, perhaps I’d ask the kitchen to check for me because when I came across a lean bit of meat, it was actually pretty good.
The atmosphere was as it should be in Jam Tree – from 8pm onwards the vibe is more bar that serves food than gastro-pub, so if you are planning on eating, we suggest you go along early.
And, I would definitely go back to Jam Tree, for evening drinks and all of the chicken wings!!
There’s a stunning garden too, for when the weather gets just a little warmer
