A Brief Comedy Review
I was lucky enough to get an invite last night to London Comedy Night 2011 at the Lyric in Shaftesbury Avenue. The event was in aid of the James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer and the fundraisers seem to have done a great job filling the theatre. On a personal level, I prefer the intimacy of a smaller comedy club for stand-up comedy but this was a GOOD night. The audience did seem to have some problem moving from the Bar to the Theatre, but that probably added to the atmosphere once things got started!
I didn’t stay for the whole evening. I was a bit tired but after some excellent hosting by the mad Canadian, Craig Campbell and a truly memorable first act by Simon Evans I was not entirely sure how much better the night could get. Chris Cox made a pretty good attempt to follow Mr Evans and I was looking forward to NEEDING to stay for the rest of the night. But, I was sadly disappointed by the final act of the first half. Perhaps just the fact I was tired, but Frank Sanazi simply didn’t work for me. Three out of four good comedians is not bad though.
I left happy to have been privileged to have seen a first rate professional comedian and a quirky 20 year old who is clearly a future star.
I hope they made shedloads of money for the charity too!
