Eating out in Mayfair, London
Mayfair is home to some of the most expensive property in the world…and some of the most expensive restaurants too. So, it’s a good idea to have some idea of what is on offer before you head off to the Royal Academy or Fortnum and Masons.
You don’t have to spend a fortune. In fact, my current favourite restaurant, Pollen Street Social, in Mayfair does a remarkably good value set lunch menu. And, if you like lobster, there’s the eponymous Burger and Lobster, where you can feast on lobster for £20. There are bargains to be had at tapas bars like ‘El-Pirata’ and some very special steaks on offer at Goodman.
My current top three restaurants in Mayfair
- Pollen Street Social – for excellent modern European cuisine
- Goodman – for the best steak I’ve had so far in London
- El Pirata – for a really friendly and traditional tapas at a budget price
Others to consider include Aubaine, Burger and Lobster and even the restaurant at the Royal Academy. And, I’ve enjoyed Benares if you are looking for modern indian cuisine, though there’s no review on London Unattached at the moment, hopefully there will be soon. There is also a concentration of great restaurants in Shepherd Market. You will find Iran, a restaurant serving fine Persian dishes, Boudin Blanc, a traditional French Brasserie, l’Autre – a polish mexican wine bar and a whole range of other unusual eateries.
So don’t be nervous of finding somewhere to eat in Mayfair, there ARE good value restaurants if you look around!
