Win a Cruise (or two) with Thomson:
My first experience of a Cruise was also my first experience of travelling abroad without my parents. I was eleven years old and I’d just started Secondary School. I can remember going home and telling my mother that I had ‘the opportunity of a lifetime’. It was to go on a Schools Cruise. Starting in Athens, we cruised around the Mediterranean, the Adreatic and the Black Sea over (I think) a three week period. I know we went to Delos and Mykonos. We spent half a day in Dubrovnik. We went to Istanbul and we even managed to spend a day in Yalta (then part of the USSR). Now, I was quite well travelled even at that age because my father had been an Army doctor and we’d lived in Germany and Malaysia.
Of course the cruise was a completely new experience – free from my parents and (perhaps more significantly) from the constraints of a holiday with two younger brothers. As a result I have quite a sentimental and rather biased view of what a cruise is like. We DID eat something approaching school dinners for most of the trip so I don’t think we had the kind of cruise menu Thomson serve these days. And we bunked up in dormitories which seemed to be deep in the bowels of the ship. I can remember sneaking upstairs (remember the Titanic) and marvelling at the glamorous way the adults on board the ship were travelling. It was a lasting impression. And that apart from the fabulous places we visited.
I’ve never had a chance to go on a cruise again – so perhaps this is your opportunity and mine!
Thomson are looking for culinary creatives to design a 3 course menu fit for a feast. If you think you fit the bill, just check out their Cruise Kitchen Menu Creator
The Cruise Kitchen Menu Creator will let you choose from a selection of ingredients to build a masterpiece dinner, as well as choosing the perfect cooking style and accompaniments. And you can describe your dishes, make them sound as mouth-watering as possible. The person who creates the best menu, will be chosen by an expert panel. Three finalist will be selected and given the chance to try their dishes onboard a cruise to the Canary Islands in March 2014. If that’s not enough, the ultimate winner will then be sent on the Pride of Panama cruise around the Caribbean in January 2015.
The competition closes at 23:59 on the 12th of January 2014 so you’ll need to get a move on if you want to enter.
So, I’ll see you onboard shall I?
