There is Only One Harrods:
Being asked to review a hamper from Harrods seemed like a dream request. I’ve never been sent a Harrods hamper before and from the days when I was at school and used to visit the iconic department store on day trips to London looking for something to buy just to get one of those green bags with the gold Harrods logo, I’ve always aspired to more.
But, when I started to try to pick, I really struggled. Of course I had a budget and of course I couldn’t choose! I was torn between the rather beautiful looking bottles of wine and champagne in carry cases and the food hampers. In the end, the one I REALLY wanted, something of a hybrid with a lot of luxury food products and a couple of bottles of wine was just over my budget. My obsession with finding a hamper with some wine was driven by having spend a happy afternoon in the Harrods wine cellars where I discovered that the department store has an amazing range of wines on offer at sensible prices.
The casket I picked normally retails at £125 but it is currently out of stock, but there are wide range of other hampers on the Harrods website
My choice was a real treasure trove – and I love the smart green canvas and leather trunk.
Inside there was jam and marmalade, fudge, three different types of tea, sweet biscuits, cheese biscuits, mustard, a bottle of Harrods Claret and another of Sauvignon Blanc.
And, just to make sure the wine gets opened, a proper waiter’s corkscrew with the Harrods logo (perfect for those summer picnics).
Now, given the trunk is something that I am using – not as Lena hoped, as a very posh cat basket – but to store all my photography kit, I think this particular hamper is something of a bargain.
Of course, the truth is always in the eating so I had to sample something…and decided the best thing to try first would be the rather beautifully packaged Poppy and Sesame Seed Crackers. I think they are going to disappear far too quickly – light, crumbly and just slightly salty with a scattering of poppy and sesame seeds
Perfect with Tickler cheddar from Paxton and Whitfield…
I’m not going to pretend I’ve tried all the other other things in the casket. I’m pacing myself – planning to treat myself to a little morsel from Harrods whenever I’m feeling a bit blue. Or, when I have something to celebrate. Or, in fact whenever I fancy something special which of course will probably be most of the time.
