Gin for Christmas #Giveaway

December 7, 2016 by Fiona Maclean 282 Comments

Win Gin from Greenalls for Christmas:

What is nicer when all the Christmas preparations are done than to sit down on Christmas Eve with the perfect Gin and Tonic?  That’s why I was delighted when Greenall’s offered a bottle of their Original London Dry Gin for one lucky London-Unattached reader.  Greenall’s has been distilled in one of the UK’s oldest gin distillery for over 250 years now.

greenalls

Founded in 1761 by Thomas Dakin, the forefather of English gin and Greenall’s original master distiller, Greenall’s has been at the forefront of British gin for gin lovers through the centuries. It is still crafted in Warrington although the  botanicals which make this gin so special come from around the World including wild Tuscan juniper, delicate Moroccan coriander, and zesty Spanish lemons.

The Greenall’s recipe remains a closely guarded secret, known only to the 7 master distillers who have crafted the gin for generations.   One of those is the current Master Distiller.   In 1996 Joanne Moore began working at Greenall’s as a quality manager and 10 years later was awarded the accolade of Master Distiller. This makes her one of the first female Gin Master Distillers in the World. Joanne has recently been selected as a member of The Gin Guild in recognition of her services to the Gin industry.

Greenall’s also sent me a selection of Cocktail recipes to try and I thought I’d share my personal favourite with you here.  I’m in good company because Greenall’s French 75 is also the favourite of Master Distiller Joanne Moore.

  • 25ml Greenall's Dry Gin
  • 25ml Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
  • 10ml Sugar Syrup (1 part water to 2 parts sugar)
  • Champagne or Prosecco

Directions

Step 1 Shake the Gin, Lemon Juice and Sugar Syrup with ice.
Step 2 Strain into a chilled champagne glass
Step 3 Top up with champagne or prosecco
Step 4 Serve with a lemon twist garnish

If you’d like a chance to win a bottle of Greenall’s all you need to do is let me know in the comments below what your favourite gin-based cocktail is.  Then, just follow through the rafflecopter as normal and keep your fingers crossed.

My husband would tell you it’s a Vesper Martini, he’s a little addicted to them, although I think he likes to pretend he’s James Bond when drinking them.
Personally I prefer just a G&T, but with a snazzy tonic, like Double Dutch’s Cucumber and Watermelon one. That is heavenly. Yum!

  • April 12th  - National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day

The USA celebrates National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day on April 12th.   Well, why not?   Regarded as one of the top comfort foods in America, the version we eat today originated in the 1920s when sliced bread and American cheese became easily available.

Of course, those of you from the USA and those of you wishing to join the celebrations can do so in London!  Head for the glamorous art-deco inspired Colony Grill at the Beaumont Hotel and you’ll find the menu offers a Grilled Cheese sandwich with Dill Pickle, perfect for National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day.  While you are there, enjoy a cocktail or three - and perhaps a couple of other American classics - we love the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and perhaps Bananas Foster flambeed in dark rum for dessert.

    Enjoy!
