Archer Street gets a Caribbean Vibe:
There’s something rather lovely about an invitation to the opening of a new bar space that promises the opportunity to get sand between your toes; how could we resist?! Archer Street has redesigned one of its bars to take weary Londoners into the heart and soul of the Caribbean, using Antigua and Barbuda as the inspiration.
This clever interior makes you feel that you are sitting in Antigua looking down on one of its 365 beaches; yes, that’s one for every day of the year. The colours reflect the warmth of the place and it’s people, and perhaps the fabulous rum cocktails on the menu contribute to getting the crowd into the right mood. We were invited to try quite a selection of the cocktails. It would be hard to choose an absolute favourite, but I think it would be between The Five Island, pictured below, made from Cîroc Grapefruit vodka and homemade watermelon syrup shaken with ginger & lemongrass cordial, Cointreau and lime juice, served in a coupe. Or the Freemans Bay made with English Harbour rum with pineapple and cranberry juice served in a bowl with Crème de Hibiscus, lime juice and Pimento would be a close contender. We also sampled a selection of canapes, which were delicious.
With beautifully adorned girls straight from Carnival, it was easy to forget that we were actually in the heart of Soho. (In case you get too excited, I think that these stunning young women were for the launch party, rather than a permanent feature). The other fabulous feature of this place, in addition to the DJ playing some great classics, are the staff themselves. Mostly ‘resting’ actors, they are very charming and also take turns to belt out a song. There aren’t many places I can think of where the staff become part of a cabaret.
Please don’t judge us too harshly; we were encouraged to get into the swing of things! By the time we left half of the guests were up and dancing, which is a testament to how much fun this place is, as it was a Wednesday night!
This really was a fun evening and a great place to visit with friends if you fancy great drinks, charming service, live singing and a bit of a boogie. They also do corporate and event bookings.
