Going Pink – Edgerton Pink Gin #Giveaway

June 6, 2017 by Fiona Maclean 147 Comments

A very special gin from Edgerton:

First launched in 2011, Edgerton Gin is a pretty shade of pink.  With 15 unique botanicals, the pink colour comes from an infusion of pomegranate seed botanical.  It also includes the classic juniper and a rather more unusual botanical – damiana.  Known as the ‘honeymoon herb of Mexico’ Damiana was used by the Aztecs for impotency.  It is supposed to produce an emotional uplift that lasts for up to 90 minutes and helps to promote pleasant dreams.  Now, I’m a big fan of artisan gins – I like them served with a simple garnish and a good tonic as well as used for simple cocktails.  One of the advantages of a pink gin is that you don’t need to swamp the drink with overpowering fruit juices and flavours.  It will work perfectly well with tonic and a garnish of pomegranate and rose.

Edgerton Pomegranate High Res

So, I’m intrigued and will be testing with my own Edgerton Gin soon.  It turns out to be the eponymous creation of Martin Egerton Gill, formerly owner of the London Gin Company.  Like my own parents, his father had a love of pink gin made with Angostura bitters.  I still have my bottle in the cupboard although few people seem to use it these days.  After selling the London Gin Company, he decided to create this new, complex gin including pomegranate to create the distinctive pink colour.

Cocktail with flower petal Edgerton Gin

I suspect I’ll end up making one of the delicious sounding simple summer cocktails that Edgerton has created, along with one of my favourite London restaurants, Balcon at Sofitel London St James.  Their new signature cocktail is just 30 ml of Edgerton Pink Gin, with 20 ml of lime juice and 15 ml of Monin Orgeat syrup all topped up with Brut Champagne.  Garnished with rose petals and pomegranate seeds it sounds perfect to me.

Tarragon Pink Edgerton Gin

If you’d like to try for yourself, Edgerton have kindly offered a bottle of gin for one lucky London-Unattached reader.  All you need to do is follow the rafflecopter through and keep your fingers crossed!

  • April 12th  - National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day

The USA celebrates National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day on April 12th.   Well, why not?   Regarded as one of the top comfort foods in America, the version we eat today originated in the 1920s when sliced bread and American cheese became easily available.

Of course, those of you from the USA and those of you wishing to join the celebrations can do so in London!  Head for the glamorous art-deco inspired Colony Grill at the Beaumont Hotel and you’ll find the menu offers a Grilled Cheese sandwich with Dill Pickle, perfect for National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day.  While you are there, enjoy a cocktail or three - and perhaps a couple of other American classics - we love the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and perhaps Bananas Foster flambeed in dark rum for dessert.

    Enjoy!
