Loire Valley Summary and Thanks

Just a very short post to link together my rather disparate ramblings and recommend a few other blogs.  I did have a fabulous time and I would like to thank City Airport who took us to the Loire Valley.  They have flights direct to Angers with British Airways and if you’d like to tour the area, it’s a great way to get there quickly and (in my experience) with none of the hassle of Heathrow and Gatwick.  There’s a summary of the trip on the City Airport blog and a little competition to win tickets there yourself!

For me, one highlight was the meal at La Table de la Bergerie where the food was astonishingly good.  I was reading the trip advisor reviews and found someone commenting that it was gourmet food at budget prices…and I don’t think anyone would be disappointed with the meal or the price.

I loved the enthusiasm of ALL the wine makes and the energy of some of them in particular, like the wonderful Evelyne de Jessey-Pontbriand who is clearly a driving force behind the Savennieres appelation.  And, Chateau de Brissac brought back all my childhood memories of what a Loire Valley Chateau should be like!

I am very grateful to Olivier Bouchereau who was our guide for most of the trip, at times unexpectedly.  At least he had some of his favourite Anjou Blanc!  And, I suspect that for anyone who needs to know more, the Office de Tourisme d’Angers would be a great place to start.

There were other people on the trip who know a lot more about wine than me, I’d refer you to Quentin”s post if you want to know more about the wine we tried and will link in the others as I find them!

And, remember that with direct flights to Angers from City Airport, a trip like this is not budget-busting.

My other posts cover a little about the city, about the food and about the wine makers, so do take a look if you are thinking of putting together your own visit.
