Preview – EE British Academy Film Awards Dinner:
On Sunday 12 February, as in previous years and like millions of film fans throughout the land, I’ll sofa down to watch the brilliant and the beautiful step onto the stage at London’s Royal Albert Hall to receive their dues at the EE British Academy Film Awards. And afterwards, as I inevitably hum the song of the season, La La Land’s “City of Stars” and foxtrot off to bed, 2000 guests will be gathering in the glittering, glamorous ballroom at Park Lane’s Grosvenor House Hotel for a celebratory dinner which matches the magic of the evening. Catering for that number of people takes precision planning and the Grosvenor House team lead by Hotel Executive Chef, Nigel Boschetti and Head Chef of BAFTA Anton Manganaro, having announced the event’s official menu, are prepped and good to go.
The list of official partners supporting the EE BAFTA Awards includes brands which cater for all occasions and purses, so if you’re not on the A-list, why not treat yourself to a night at home with your own personal celebrities? You’ll need to start with something luxurious and the BAFTA champagne of choice is Taittinger, James Bond’s favourite fizz and a venerable Reims house that loves Britain so much they’ll be planting vines in Kent this year (the first champagne house to do so). For those moving into a dry February, Badoit and Evian are the official bottled water partners and on the night Evian will be serving their refreshing Fruits & Plants collection.
The Grosvenor House meal will begin with a choice of Cornish crab salad or mixed grain salad with pickled vegetables. This will be paired with Villa Maria Private Bin Sauvigon Blanc 2016. A Villa Maria Private Bin Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 will be served with a main course of Denham Estate Venison Wellington and a delicious winter vegetable selection or vegetarian puff pastry parcels of buttered spinach, wild mushrooms and goat’s cheese. The wonderful Hotel Chocolat has designed a mouth-watering melange of velvet 65% Supermilk Chocolate, blueberry and raspberry white cremeux and pumpkin seed granola for desert. Try looking for a substitute at their online shop – I challenge you not to find something that will leave you equally satisfied.
On the eve of the big night, Nespresso is the co-host of the Official Nominees’ Party to be held at Kensington Palace. Here a luxury menu of coffee infused creations will be served and top mixologists from The Savoy are creating silver screen inspired Nespresso cocktails. Let your imagination run wild!
If your BAFTA evening inspires you to seek out excellence for yourself, then look no further than the London venues mentioned above. The Grosvenor House, The Royal Albert Hall and Kensington Palace all offer the best of British hospitality and the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the stars.
