Restaurant quality brunch brought directly to your door from Caravan.
There so many things I’ve missed during lockdown…family, friends, holidays, social gatherings and eating out – especially brunch at Caravan! I love a leisurely weekend brunch out with friends indulging in some of my favourite foods so it was great to discover that while we can’t go out at the moment, Miles Kirby the Co-founder and Chef Director of Caravan Restaurants has had the inspired idea to create the “Caravan Brunch Box” just been launched and available to order and be delivered direct to your door as part of an exclusive and Nationwide partnership with GreatFood2U.
Caravan restaurant, bar and coffee roastery first opened in Exmouth Market in 2010 and has gone on to open several more restaurants across London all in fabulous locations including the beautiful Granary Square development in Kings Cross in 2012, a converted metal box factory in 2016 in Bankside, very close to the Tate Modern extension, then in 2017 at the Bloomberg Arcade in the City of London and finally in 2018 in Fitzrovia, in the former BBC Radio 1 recording studio. Caravan’s ethos is to serve fresh and healthy ingredients with bold flavours and global influences, in a relaxed environment. They provide all-day dining, excellent home-brewed fresh coffee plus their signature breakfasts, brunch and drinks menu.
There are two different Brunch Kit Boxes available either Caravan Baked Eggs (£36) or Caravan Kimchi Pancake with Slow Roasted Pork Belly (£39). Both serve two people although mine would easily have stretched to three.
I choose the baked eggs which came with a beautiful freshly baked sourdough loaf and a 250g bag of Caravan Roastery fresh coffee, the Xmas BRÜ – a lovely wintery combination of three rich and aromatic coffees from Sumatra, Peru and Columbia, a 750ml bottle of cold-pressed delicious carrot, orange, ginger and turmeric juice, plus a recipe card, a pot of Caravan’s luscious tomato, pepper, chickpea and harissa ragout, creamy Greek yoghurt, chilli flakes, chopped parsley and all the ingredients to make your very own jalapeno cornbread muffins, all I needed to buy was eggs and milk.
My brunch arrived in a well-insulated chill box on Friday all ready for my much looked forward to weekend brunch. So, Saturday morning with fresh coffee on the brew, all I needed to do was bake the muffins put the ragout in a pan, warm and bake the eggs.
The cold-pressed juice was a lovely healthy combination of flavours, it slipped down very easily. The savoury corn muffins were an absolute triumph (I’m definitely planning to recreate them again), they tasted as good as they looked, marvellously cheesy and slightly spicy with nuggets of sweet corn, and they were great fun to make. Served with perfectly poached eggs nestled among the rich spicy tomato and pepper ragout and crusty sourdough bread, we might as well have been dining out in one of Caravans restaurants it was so good. This is such a tasty meal which created a fabulous collision of textures and layering of flavours.
Caravan’s brunch boxes are the perfect way to bring restaurant-quality food straight to your table and a fantastic way to spice up your weekend. What’s more they are available nationwide.
