Tea and Coffee for the perfect Christmas from Farrer’s
My household divides neatly into those who love coffee and those who prefer tea. A pre-Christmas review selection from Farrer’s was therefore very welcome and ticked everyone’s box. With quality this excellent, there is no way these speciality teas and coffees will last until Christmas in my house. Probably not past the end of the week.
I have previously reviewed Farrer’s award-winning Lakeland Special small leaf tea and it remains a refreshing blend that I have been enjoying since the first lockdown when I decided that loose leaf tea was a treat I would enjoy daily. How timeous to receive another helping just as the second lockdown began. Farrer’s loose infusion tisane Christmas blend is a sensational brew. One should drink it mindfully, using the senses to appreciate the full beauty of this tisane. On opening the sachet my olfactory senses were met with an aroma that announced ‘it’s Christmas!’ That’s the clove, cinnamon and ginger flavourings. My teacup contained a deep ruby hue which was very appealing and seasonal. The taste was utterly gorgeous – imagine hibiscus, rosehip and apple pieces along with orange peel. Both gentle and punchy, deeply fruity with a long note of warming spices. Once I drained the pot, I picked out the fruit to eat as it was so tasty.
My coffee lover was equally satisfied with the two new blends in his collection. Filter grind coffee, accompanied by a V60 coffee dripper that fits over a cup, makes it so easy to get a top-quality cup of coffee in a flash. Farrer’s is the oldest coffee roaster in the UK so you are assured of great quality. Both the Columbia and Costa Rica coffees are mild in strength. The former has won a 2020 Great Taste award and has a nutty, caramel finish while the latter has a different flavour profile – the sweetness of honey and coconut balanced by the warmth of star anise.
Farrer’s is a wonderful company with a wide array of teas and coffees. Established in the Lake District in 1819, Farrer’s Tea and Coffee Merchants know a thing or two about quality. It deserves all our support as do all the artisan food producers facing such tough times.
The selection reviewed above sells at £29.09 (incl VAT) and includes 250g Colombian Cafetière Grind, 250g Costa Rica Filter Grind (for V60), V60 Starter kit, 250g Lakeland Special Loose leaf tea, 125g Christmas blend tea.
You can order online from the Farrer’s website. And, you can also enter day 6 of our 12 days of Christmas giveaway for a chance to win the same selection for yourself just in time for Christmas
