Odysea olives and oils to give back more.

Few of us can have missed the stories of wildfires across the world.  Summer 2021 for Greece was the worst heatwave in more than 30 years, with thousands of people evacuated from their homes and with over 140,000 acres of forest destroyed in just a few weeks.  One of the worst-hit parts of Greece was the island of Evia, the second largest in the country, where more than 2,000 people had to be evacuated by ferry.  Now, Odysea is helping rebuild the country that supplies all their products.

The story of Odysea is one of bringing Greece to the UK.  Panos Manuelides started by selling premium Greek olives from a stall on the Portobello Road way back in 1991.  It may seem unthinkable today, but until the 1990s buying good Greek olives and olive oils in the UK was a real struggle.  My Greek friends used to travel home for holidays with a spare empty suitcase and return to the UK with cans of oil, Kalamata olives and bags of pistachios.  It was quite clear at that time there was a gap in the market and Panos created Odysea to bring those high quality authentic Greek products to those of us unable to visit the country itself.

Now a well-established brand with a comprehensive online shop, Odysea products are also stocked widely in supermarkets and delis.

For Christmas they have a whole range of hampers but, for me, this particular one really stands out.  The Odysea & Rovies ‘Plant a Tree Fund’ hamper includes a selection of delicious olives and olive oil.  Proceeds from each hamper will be donated to Let’s Do It Greece, a charity fighting devastation caused by the recent Greek wildfires.  We think it’s perfect for gifting to your foodie friends and family who are serious about the highest quality olives and oils and, just as importantly, this hamper is ideal for those who are looking to give back with their gifts over the festive season.

Odysea Christmas Hamper

Let’s Do It Greece is the biggest voluntary action in Greece, an initiative to make changes to the environment and rebuild the ecosystem. Their team is comprised solely by volunteers and mainly young adults who became interested in volunteering through school.  There’s a network of public and commercial supporters spanning the country and Odysea themselves will contribute to the initiative of Let’s Do It Greece by donating 1500 trees.

To help raise awareness of their projects, Odysea are offering one of their ‘Plant a Tree Fund’ hampers as a prize for a lucky London-Unattached reader.  But that shouldn’t stop you from checking out their shop yourself.  The best thing about supporting the Odysea project is while your money will be supporting a good cause, all the products are really delicious!

The Odysea & Rovies ‘Plant a Tree Fund’  hamper is worth £60 and will include:

Alexandria style olives, Conservolia olives, Odysea Organic mixed stuffed olives, Odysea big Halkidiki olives, Odysea big Kalamata olives, Rovies Kalamata olives, Rovies Green olives, Rovies almond stuffed olives, Rovies pimento stuffed olives, Rovies green olive paste, Rovies Kalamata olive paste, Organic Kalamata extra virgin olive oil and Early harvest extra virgin olive oil together with a large Odysea bag.

To enter, all I need you to do is to check through the Odysea shop and find one ingredient that you might use in your favourite Greek dish.  Then, tell me what that dish is. Follow the rafflecopter through and keep your fingers and toes crossed.
