Drunch – Where Healthy Drinks Mitigate the Steak and Chips:
Just around the corner from Bond Street, Drunch is the sort of place you should know about for a shoppers lunch. While the menu is concise, it’s a well balanced mixture of salads, fresh grills and seafood. And, there’s a great range of juices, cold pressed teas and smoothies.
An invitation to explore the healthy lunch offerings might just have gone slightly off-piste though. We started off well with cleansing tea and smoothie, but somehow we managed to avoid the healthier options on the menu completely
We could have picked any number of healthy sounding salads including the Drunch Super Food Salad with mixed leaves, avocado, butternut squash, cherry tomatoes, grated carrots, sweetcorn, quinoa, pumpkin seeds and walnuts. We could even have picked the Super Food Quesadilla with butternut squash, curly kale, sweet-corn and feta. Instead…
Well, I ordered a rare steak sandwich
With chips, tomato relish and…salad. So, at least 10% of my meal was healthy.
My companion picked the cheeseburger which came with salad too, so that must be OK?
Still, there was no alcohol on the menu and our healthy drinks did taste very refreshing. And even our ‘this can’t really be healthy’ main course choices were light and non-greasy.
It was a cold, grey day and if I’m honest I wanted some comfort food. Our order fitted the bill perfectly.
We probably didn’t need desserts – but in the interests of research we went on to pick one each from selection on show (there’s nothing on the menu but we were told there’s a good choice every day)
My brownie was good, but I have to admit regretting not ordering the carrot cake, which came with lashings of chocolate sauce too.
Now, while our selection of food might not have ticked the ‘healthy lunch’ boxes, it was all very good and with prices between £7 and £16 for main course and around £4 for freshly made smoothies and cold pressed teas, it is somewhere you can relax and revive a bit after a day of shopping, or just meet up with friends for lunch
At night the place turns into a Shisha lounge – the outdoor seating in a little courtyard area, is well heated and set up with rugs to keep your knees warm. And I imagine there’s a completely different vibe
By day – well, it’s somewhere to meet friends, enjoy a bite to eat, share some time together and know that no matter how hard you try, the food will maintain a healthy element.
