Christmas might be a little bit different in 2020 so it is reassuring to know that on the lunch table at least, traditional foods will continue to warm and nurture us. Many artisan companies are now selling their Christmas range and there are some superb products on offer. Now more than ever consumers can help support the UK artisan business via online orders. One such company is  Hawkshead, renowned for its wide range of products with outstanding taste and quality.

A small, family-run business based in the historic village of Hawkshead in the magnificent Lake District, Hawkshead is an artisan producer of award-winning preserves. They have over 100 relishes, pickles and preserves available to order. They are made in small batches, using traditional methods of production and sourcing mostly local products.

Hawkshead Grand Couture Christmas gift box

I was sent three relishes to review, the Grande Couture Christmas gift box, which includes Christmas marmalade, fruity cranberry sauce and Christmas chutney. Having tasted these colourful relishes I can vouch for the appropriateness of the Hawkshead slogan, embellish with relish.  In their distinctive glass jars, they will look a treat on your table, no need to decant. They will see me through Christmas day from breakfast to the end of a lengthy lunch and into Boxing Day for those terrific sandwiches made with leftovers. On Christmas morning I will start my day with a mug of tea and a slice of toast spread with Christmas marmalade which tastes like a citrus pick me up and has lovely thin slices of lemon and orange peel in every spoonful. The fruity cranberry sauce will take pride of place alongside the goose. The sauce has that perfect level of tartness to cut through the rich flavour of the goose meat. After dessert, I plan to serve a large cheeseboard which we will sit and pick at for hours. Relishes play a crucial support role for the star cheeses and I select my chutney with care. Having tasted the Hawkshead Christmas chutney I need look no further. It is utterly delicious with a beautiful orange glow and is bursting with juicy apricots and the warming notes of coriander and cayenne.

Hawkshead christmas chutney with cheese

The Grande Couture Christmas gift box (on sale for £22) is not only going to enhance my festive meal but will make a wonderful seasonal present for friends. The relishes are so delicious that I keep helping myself to spoonfuls so I will have to replenish and buy another set for Christmas too. Wise men may offer gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh but this wise woman is presenting a trio of jewel-coloured loveliness this Christmas.

Check the Hawkshead website for more information www.hawskheadrelish.com

And, for Day 3 of our 12 days of Christmas Giveaway series, we have a selection of Christmas relishes for you worth £22 too.

To enter, just complete the rafflecopter as normal, remembering to answer the mandatory question.
