4000 Years in the Making – The 4K Outdoor Oven from Everdure.
On one of the first sunny days of Spring, I went along to the launch of Heston Blumenthal’s 4k, the latest addition to his Everdure range of outdoor cooking appliances. I was genuinely impressed – they all look far too stylish to call them BBQs!
The Sipping Room at West India Quay was the perfect setting for some outdoor eating.
We enjoyed the sun, blue skies and surroundings while we checked out the Everdure range and the star of the day. Not Heston (well, not at that point) his new creation, the 4K Outdoor Oven.
Heralded as the future of charcoal cooking, the 4k, the new Everdure by Heston Blumenthal outdoor oven (RRP £1795) is a thing of beauty and the latest addition to the Michelin star chef’s hi-tech range! The 4K is the pinnacle of outdoor dining, inspired by the 4000-year tradition of Kamado-style and man-made ceramic clay cooking, it merges the rich history of charcoal taste, with revolutionary 21st century technology.
The brunch menu below was planned to show off the range and delicacy of food you can cook on the 4K.
The chefs showed us how the 4k worked as they prepared the food. The 4K has all the abilities of a cooker you may have indoors at home and it didn’t feel like they were cooking outside on a BBQ but had the familiar smell of hot charcoal and the open atmosphere of outdoor cooking.
Best of all, it’s available to buy and this stunning piece of kit means home cooks everywhere can experience the same kind of culinary mastery as a professional chef. The 4K is available in two sleek, eye catching colours, and is sure to be the focal point of any garden space.
The results of the cooking was a testimony to the injection of 21st-century technology into the humble BBQ to produce the perfect cooking experience.
Simple food cooked well and easily outdoors. I don’t think many would risk toasting eggy bread or scallops on an open BBQ. However, the ability to control the temperature of the 4k makes this possible.
The 4K is armed with fast flame charcoal ignition, ambient and integrated probes which control meat and air temperatures. Not only that, but it also has an unparalleled airflow control system which makes turning the heat up or slowing it down a unique experience and results in ultimate precision when cooking.
A particularly important feature of the 4K is it has a cool-to-touch exterior which makes it safer for families having dun in the garden.
For those who love their smartphones and modern tech, the 4K comes with Bluetooth connectivity so you can carry on sipping your Pimms while you check the temperature of the probes, control the temperature and check when the food will be ready.
The 4k operates like your normal oven indoors making it possible to cook a roast dinner outside. As it is completely contained by the lid you can cook a meal outside at any time of year. It also comes with a pizza stone for cooking the perfect pizza. No need for takeaways anymore!
Best of all, underneath all the special features there really is charcoal. So if you want a little piece of traditional fire cooking you can have that too. There’s really nothing quite like food cooked over charcoal – toasted marshmallows or in our case mini baked Alaskas on sticks.
And they were decidedly yummy too. Such a simple idea created by one of Heston’s own chefs from his Fat Duck Team.
The icing on the cake at the event was the arrival of the man himself who flew in from France. Genuinely thrilled with his creation he was keen to chat about it.
And I was thrilled to say hello and grab him for a quick photo before we both had to dash off!
The 4K is not the cheapest as you are paying for something special which is not found in the normal range of BBQs. This really is the tops in outdoor cooking.
And no more waiting until spring or summer to dine outdoors. Whether you want to grill a steak, roast a turkey, smoke meat or bake a pizza, the 4K will tell you how to cook it and prepare it, whilst advising on temperature control, charcoal management and even recipes!
The stunning 4K makes it possible for the home cook to cook outside just as they would inside and feel stylish and like a professional whilst doing so.
The 4k is just the latest in the Everdure range by Heston Blumenthal. If you can’t stretch to the price of the 4k the other BBQs, charcoal and gas, look amazing too.
Personally, I thought the nifty portable CUBE BBQ was a thing of beauty – I might just treat myself to one for the summer!
