Win Indian Gin for World Gin Day.
It seems appropriate that our World Gin Day giveaway is a particularly fine bottle of Indian gin. We’ve already reviewed and shared a cocktail recipe for Jaisalmer Gin from The Rampur Distillery, Radico Khaitan. Despite being made by one of the largest distilleries in the World, one that is more famous for Rampur Whisky, Jaisalmer is very much a craft spirit, made in small batches in a traditional copper pot.
The botanicals in Jaisalmer Gin are a mix of classic gin ingredients – juniper, liquorice root, angelica and caraway seeds with uniquely Indian aromatics. The seven Indian ingredients come from right across the country – coriander, vetiver, orange peel, cubeb berries, lemongrass and Darjeeling green tea and lemon peel. It’s a recipe created by Jaisalmer’s Master Blender Anup Barik and which aims to add an Indian touch to the gin while still staying true to the spirit.
We loved the light, spicy and aromatic flavours, the tannic tea, the sweet orange and herbal juniper notes and the peppery finish. My colleague was more than happy to drink Jaisalmer as a sipping gin and with a classic tonic, though he also shared a special Indian gin cocktail provided to us by Jaisalmer themselves for a Jaisalmer Golden Fort.
