The Jam Tree Rum Festival:
Summer is well and truly here and what better way to enjoy it than to transport yourself to the Caribbean, Cuba or maybe even Mexico, drinking rum cocktails in the sunshine with the sweet sounds of a steel band playing.
The Jam Tree Rum Festival runs throughout July and in both the Jam Tree’s Clapham and Chelsea branches. They are hosting a number of exciting events including a salsa night, a Caribbean Supper Club and some rum masterclasses.
I was invited to sample their rum cocktails and BBQ menu for the launch of their festival. Fortunately, the sun was shining and the venue was packed full, inside, and out in the garden with couples and groups of friends seeking a fun, rum soaked afternoon. I enjoyed a classic Mojito (£9.50), having become a bit of aficionado in the Mojito stakes since my visit to Cuba, I can recommend these. The Zombies (£12) were also rather good!
We ate beautifully crisp and lightly Spiced Okra with a tamarind dip, Pulled BBQ Jackfruit Taco with avocado and salsa – one for the veggies. Moist and meaty Mojito Glazed Ribs, Large juicy Kalini, Soy and Chilli Glazed Prawns, some very cute mini Cheese Burger Sliders with brioche buns and a sweet plantain jam, and a lovely Jerk Chicken Salad with pineapple.
We finished the meal with a delicious, yes you guessed it, rum soaked desert – Dark Rum Pannacotta Pot. (Dishes on the BBQ menu priced £6 – £17.50)
I can also recommend sharing the Jerry Can Smash, ((£36) a potent mix of Sailor Jerry Rum, Lime juice, ginger beer and raspberry jam which comes in an entertaining large can with plenty to go round.
I had a great afternoon at The Jam Tree, the atmosphere was buzzing, and the rum was flowing and the food was finger-licking good, so if you enjoy the sweet taste of rum be sure not to miss out this summer.
The Jam Tree Rum Festival is running for, July 1st – July 31st at Jam Tree Chelsea and Jam Tree Clapham
