A Press Launch Missed – An Event NOT to miss:
Readers of London Unattached may remember that some months ago I went to a Courvoisier Tasting Event at a well known department store. It was a one off, with just a few more opportunities for readers to go along. Now, I do have quite a busy diary and I was somewhat annoyed to find that an invite to the press launch of L’Alchemie de Courvoisier clashed with two other prior engagements on completely the other side of town. It just so happens that the event is at another well known department store, just down the road, the Fifth Floor at Harvey Nichols. And, I have a soft spot for Harvey Nichols – I like browsing through the stratospherically expensive arm candy that I can’t afford to buy and lusting after the pretty scarves and elegant perfumes.
The Fifth Floor rooftop terrace is quite special anyway looking out over the rooftops of Knightsbridge, but I’m sure in the hands of Courvoisier it will be completely transformed. The famous Cognac maker has perfected the art of transporting us into a magical world. It’s perhaps due to the fascinating art of Cognac production – you can learn a little more about that in this specially commissioned video installation
Now, if you’d like to really be transported into this magical world, the Fifth Floor bar at Harvey Nichols will be serving a bespoke cocktail menu and food pairings to highlight the refined and versatile character of Courvoisier. You’ll step out into the vineyards of the southern Charante region, as the terrace, inspired by Jarnac has been designed to incorporate all the beauty of the French countryside.
You can even visit ‘Le Château de Courvoisier’ (for private bookings of a minimum of six people), if you want a truly decadent experience.
There are three cocktails; the Courvoisier Collins (Courvoisier Exclusif blended with lemon, wild thyme syrup, orange blossom water and soda water), the Cherry and Apricot Sidecar (middle apricots and cherries, pressed apple, lemon juice and a dash of cherry liqueur) and the Exclusif Punch ( black tea, violet, vanilla pods and preserved lemon, served in a stylish vintage copper punch bowl). And, then there are three food pairing packages. How about the L’Alchimie de Courvoisier for instance, which comprises three Courvoisier Exclusif ice spheres individually flavoured with coffee beans, gingerbread and plum, topped with heated Courvoisier Exclusif. each of the three key flavours of Courvoisier Exclusif have been matched with delicious dessert pairings of a stem ginger crème brûlée, plum tarte tatin and Valrhona chocolate and coffee mille feuille.
There’s a similar pairing of Courvoisier Exclusif with a seafood platter. or you might opt for the the XO Royal package which pairs the cocktail with honey roasted scallop and Bayonne ham brochette, sliced lamb with haricots and tomato sauce, duck parmentier, a french sheep’s cheese called Ossau Iraty and black cherry jam followed by a dessert of cannelés bordelais and prune with Cognac ice cream.
L’Alchemie de Courvoisier terrace is open on the fifth floor of Harvey Nichols from 20 May – 18 August 2013
