The London Pop Up – Little Red Door
For 2 days only, the renowned Little Red Door of Paris will be taking over FAM in central London. FAM is already one of the ‘It’ places in London, and this is going to make it even more exciting. Little Red Door is having a bit of a make-over, which gives it a chance to go travelling whilst the builders and decorators do their stuff.
I love the look of the ‘wall of vinyl’ in FAM, it seems that customers can choose one and ask the staff to play it, which sounds fun.
The pop-up is being sponsored by Porter’s Gin, already a favourite with the team at London-Unattached. The challenge this time was for the multi-national bartenders to create a cocktail inspired by words from other languages that don’t translate directly into English. Each word depicts a certain emotion, feeling, state or ritual that in its native language sums up an entire experience, but in English needs a full description.
One of these is Passeggiata, the Italian for word for strolling along by the sea, breathing in the warm sunset air, digesting a lovely meal, being with each other. This was something that I first came across in a small seaside town called Minori in the mid-1970s, we had such fun strolling back and forwards along the promenade linking arms and chatting with new Italian friends. In this case, the drink is a non-alcoholic twist on a classic Americano.
I’d never heard the word Hurro before (it sounds a bit like Australian slang for Hello to me!). But it’s a sound expressing confidence and buoyancy from Ireland or Scotland depending on which source you read. And that cocktail looks fantastic!
If you’d like to see the beautifully designed menus, experience these creative cocktails, and maybe ask for a request from the vinyl wall, you will need to get yourself along to FAM on 13th or 14th April. Or even take a trip to Paris to try it out at the Little Red Door from the 4th April.
