Living it up at Lobster Kitchen:
Lobster is one of those foods that has retained its image of luxury and indulgence and I have to say that I love it! Given that it is, for most of us, an expensive ingredient, it’s not something that I have with any great frequency either to cook at home or when eating out. So to be invited to a restaurant where the menu is based around lobster was too good to pass by!
Lobster Kitchen is situated near to Tottenham Court Road and ideally placed to feed visitors to the British Museum, the Dominion Theatre, or even Primark on New Oxford Street! It shares an entrance with another restaurant so is a little difficult to spot initially; we joked that they needed a student wearing a lobster suit to stand outside or a giant wall mounted lobster.
We were treated to a lovely cocktail whose delicate elderflower scent and flavour fast forwarded me to summer. This slipped down rather too easily!
The warming rich bowl of lobster bisque helped to bring us back the reality of January in London. A bowl of this at lunchtime would be a lovely treat.
We then tried several types of lobster rolls, one with a sweet chilli dressing, and one with a classic olive oil dressing. Both were served in brioche buns. There was plenty of lobster in both, although I thought that the buns were a little on the dry side. We had a side of sweet potato chips, which were very moreish.
I’m often on business to Russell Square, which is only a short walk from here, and next time I’m looking for lunch I’ll pass by the sandwich shops and treat myself to a little piece of New England in London!
