Living in lockdown, especially throughout these cold winter months has been pretty tough going on everyone. I am generally a healthy, active and social person; I like to get out and about, but with less to do, and a little bored with cooking day in day out my usual healthy eating routine has flown out of the window somewhat and I’ve been eating the same food over and over again and indulging in comfort food and sweet treats. I don’t feel good about myself when I slip into bad eating habits. The combination of weight gain and lethargy is no joy. Now though, with the vaccination programme in full swing and spring on its way, there is hope in the air, so I was thrilled to be offered the opportunity to try out a healthy balanced diet meal plan which is available for home delivery from Love Yourself and get myself back on track.

The diet plans are all calory controlled, they have no additives, preservatives or processed meat, and there’s no chance of getting bored as the innovative menus change every week and they enable you to consume the recommended amount of fresh meat, fish, and vegetables. The great thing is, it means no more calorie counting as it’s all done for you.
Love Yourself have a wide selection of different diet plans with something suitable for everyone, they include Keto, Veto, Gluten-Free, Vegetarian, Pescatarian, Halal, Performance and the Balanced Diet, which I chose, which can be ordered with or without fish and you can choose the calorie content of your daily meal intake (2500, 2000, 1500 or 1200), so it makes it easy to focus on your health targets. The Balanced Diet is especially popular and Love Yourself have received a flood of outstanding reviews as well as winning the Best Subscription Box at the Quality Food Awards.
I received outstanding customer service, my email requests were responded to straight away, and the daily deliveries were brought to my door by friendly staff with smiles on their faces, which really does make all the difference. If you have any allergies or intolerances you can let them know and are able to choose two ingredients you wish to not have in your meals each week. The delivery arrives the day before, mine arrived late afternoon. Everything is packed in fully recyclable boxes which are all labelled and ready to pop into the fridge until you need them.
And, I can assure you, you won’t starve! Each daily meal plan includes breakfast, mid-morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner. All freshly packed and ready to eat cold or to reheat in the oven or microwave.
On my first day, I ate a moist and flavoursome turkey and pea frittata, with rocket salad with mango dressing for breakfast and a wonderfully healthy green pea & broccoli mash dip with carrots sticks for my morning snack. Lunch was a bowl of tasty paprika-spiced chicken with pasta and spinach, which provided a good combination of protein and carbs. A pina colada smoothie was the ideal afternoon pick me up and dinner was a beautifully fresh smoked mackerel salad with rocket, sweet jewels of pomegranate topped with crunchy seeds with a tangy miso dressing.
Other highlights during my three-day trial included a lovely springy almond cake with apple & cinnamon compote, which was a great way to start the day, a light and fragrant Thai-herbed coconut soup with chicken to ward off any hunger, a rocket and feta salad, perked up with juicy chunks of pineapple with a basil dressing, some small but welcome energy chocolate, prune and orange cookies, a fragrant chicken and chickpea curry and a delicious Spanish influenced baked cod in a piquant red pepper and almond sauce served with new potatoes and green beans.
You get the picture, lots of high quality, delicious and inventive dishes full of flavour providing a perfectly balanced healthy diet plan. I found it invaluable, apart from feeling as if I was putting good food in my body, I saved so much time and the food was excellent. It’s the perfect solution for those who are looking to get healthy or lose weight, or for those just don’t have the time or inclination to cook for themselves, I really recommend having a look at their website to see all the different options available.
