The Gentlemen Baristas Covent Garden appoints Mark Greenaway as Consultant Chef
Despite the dreadful difficulties the hospitality industry is currently experiencing during the pandemic, it’s great to know that new and exciting things are still happening. Award-winning culinary titan Mark Greenaway has been appointed consultant chef to one of London’s best-mannered coffee houses, The Gentleman Baristas at their St James Street Covent Garden restaurant pop up, it’s good to know that the food offering is now every bit as impeccable as their coffee!
Mark is of Scottish descent; his career has taken him all over the world but it’s his hometown of Edinburgh where his culinary roots remain. His restaurant Mark Greenaway –in Edinburgh won him many accolades including the best restaurant in Scotland courtesy of SquareMeal (2017). Mark has since gone onto launch Grazing by Mark Greenaway at the Waldorf Astoria in Edinburgh in April 2019 which opened to wide critical acclaim.
Covid19 has proved to be a challenging time for us all, but the hospitality industry has been especially hard hit, no matter, Mark still plans to open his own restaurant in London in Spring 2021, and ahead of that, he has decided to share his culinary expertise beyond Scotland and extend his talents to include the role of consultant chef at The Gentleman Baristas.
The menu will include a desirable section of inspired brunch platters such as Coffee-Infused Buckwheat Waffle with Greek Yoghurt and Nut Crumble and Roasted Pumpkin served with Halloumi, Poached Egg and Salad to all-day dining favourites including a handmade beef burger, traditional fish & chips, and a selection of open-face sandwiches, pastries and small plates. All dishes are available to eat in or take away (Deliveroo) and the menu is operational 7 days a week.
However, what I’m most excited about is that Mark Greenaway is hosting a supper club for one night only in celebration of his partnership with The Gentleman Baristas, at the club at the Covent Garden pop up on Thursday 15th October. He is cooking the lucky diners an inventive six-course seasonal menu, which includes Poached Oysters, Crab ‘Cannelloni’ with Smoked Cauliflower and Lemon Pearls, Goosenarge Duck with Bread Crisp and Invisible Sticky Toffee Pudding.
I am delighted to be going along to welcome Mark to a central London kitchen and indulge in his tempting six-course menu which is can be enjoyed with matched wines.
The good news is, if you can’t make his supper club you’ll be able to experience Marks’ cuisine at The Gentlemen Baristas Covent Garden, which will be running until Valentine’s Day.
