My Business Partner…
I’ve been working with Simon for eight years or so now. We both work from home and communicate via Skype and weekly meetings. Now, that might sound great, but it’s not a huge incentive to keep looking good. I’ll admit, I’ve been known to work in my dressing gown. But, we do go out. We have business meetings, lunches and dinners. I’ve known him arrive half an hour late because he’s been out at the last minute buying a jacket, just to look a little less of a scruff!
Now, this is Simon in his home office looking, well, really rather geeky. He doesn’t look THAT bad despite the jeans and fleece…but, not quite the sartorial champion I’d like to see coming with me on business meetings. Here’s the problem.
Apart from the fact that the outfit is really NOT a good look…he’s lost about 2 stone since that holiday five years ago…and now none of his suits fit. They are too big round the waist and chest. Of course they are also all well over 5 years old, but being a bloke, shopping is NOT high on his agenda. Obviously for business meetings it matters, but more than that, he has a fit, glamorous girlfriend who loves fashion: Meet Anna – ten years younger, an international rower who I believe won a competition for the longest legs in the UK in her youth!
Now, when he’s scrubbed up, they make a striking couple. She’s 5’11 and he’s well over 6′ – but, scrubbing up with no clothes that fit is quite hard to do! Anna has a fabulous collection of vintage clothes and shoes. And while she can dress with style…he hasn’t got a chance.
Worst of all, his daughter is now a teenager and getting to be quite a fashionable young thing.
She’s got so desperate for her dad to smarten up that his birthday presents this year were all quite focussed…and much to his disgust there wasn’t an x-box game in sight!
Socks, underwear and a couple of new shirts…what every 13yr old buys for her Dad’s birthday! Unless there’s a School Charity Ball coming up for parents, and you really don’t want your dad to be the one that looks like the geek.
So please help – Simon needs a sharp suit that fits the new him, in time for the School Charity Ball in November so his daughter doesn’t get embarrassed! He’s lost weight and looks younger, fitter and healthier, but his old suits hang off him. He likes dressing well and looking smart, but hates shopping…and working from home, he only needs a suit on special occasions, by which time it’s too late to go shopping.
Something like this suit from the Saville Row Collection would make him look quite dapper…and we might even impress the Bank Manager! I’d love to see him looking that smart again, and the whole Saville Row Collection is really impressive and I think well suited to a forty something year old who likes wearing cuff-links and nice ties but doesn’t have the suite to match. Who knows if he went to look round the new suit range at Marks and Spencer he might be able to get rid of his collection of fleeces!
So please consider giving Simon a Man-Over and make the three women in his life happy!
