Lena Loves – Natusan™.
Ad: I was paid a fee to review this cat litter delivery service. All content is editorially given.
We don’t generally think about how our pets might be affecting the planet. But, according to Natusan™, cat litter alone generates around 2% or 2.5 million tons of non-recycled waste in the UK. Certainly, those bags of dusty mineral stuff which I’ve been buying for Lena (who is mostly an indoor cat and would never dream of using an outside loo) are heavy, unpleasant and fill up my general rubbish bin. So, she and I were delighted to be offered the chance to try Natusan™, a natural cat litter delivery service with litter that can be recycled. It’s a monthly subscription service which is perfect for city dwellers like us.
The service I’ve been testing is the full ‘litter box’ offer. Your cat’s litter arrives in a neat zipper bag, a bit like the ones you get from Ikea, complete with a disposable litter tray. You fill the tray up and leave your cat to use it as normal. There’s even a cardboard scoop to use in order to remove the clumps. And, a second bag of fresh litter so you can keep topping up the tray through the month.
What’s really special about Natusan™ though is the litter itself which is made of natural wood. I was surprised when my bag arrived at how fine and soft it is – perfect for those cats with delicate paws. It also smells wonderful. Gentle reader, filling your cat’s litter tray is like a walk in the forest. There’s no fake disinfectant smell, just a lovely natural woody note. For those of us who live in small City dweller spaces, that’s really quite important.
The box comes with a lid so that you are officially supposed to make up a ‘closed’ litter tray. Lena is quite small (around 3kg) and for her, that’s absolutely fine. But, I do wonder if a larger cat might need the lid removed for comfort.
It took me about 3 minutes to set up the litter tray – I did end up checking the you-tube video but that was more because I didn’t want to destroy the tray by accident. I suspect next month’s supply will be even easier to get set up.
Natusan™ is a clumping litter which means when your cat pees or poos, the litter will form a clump around the waste to help make it easy to remove. For Lena, who suffers from IBS, that’s a real advantage as it helps make sure she stays clean and all the waste stays in the tray. I’ve always removed the waste and disposed of it in a litter locker. But, a big advantage of Natusan™ is that at the end of the month the litter and the disposable tray are collected (in the same zipper bag they were delivered in). Then, the whole lot is composted.
The composting bit is also well thought out – Natusan™ has partnered with the UK charity Trees for Cities and the soiled litter is given to them to turn into fertiliser used to plant trees in the London area. Natusan™ has already made a commitment to support Trees for Cities in the planting of 1,000 trees in the London area and if you check their website you can find out a lot more about that. Your cat will be helping improve the environment for everyone!
It’s a bit like magic if, like me, you are used to lugging around bags of cat litter. Everything is delivered to your door and all you need to do is leave out your Natusan™ bag with the old litter tray and the used litter ready to be collected. The natural wood litter never seems to get smelly – and you don’t have that horrid task of scrubbing out your cat’s litter tray every so often because you get a new disposable one each month. And no, your cat doesn’t have to keep his or her paws crossed while they are waiting for a new delivery – you get a special lightweight temporary tray to keep things going on changeover day!
We are both impressed. Lena loves the smell of her new litter and how soft it is on her paws. And, she says being given a new cardboard box each month is a real treat. I love the convenience and cleanliness of the system and I’m impressed by the thought that has gone in to making a ‘green’ product and by the cat litter delivery as a whole. So, while, as an obligate carnivore Lena is never going to give up meat, she can still be a woke cat with Natusan™.
Want to find out for yourself? Right now this cat litter delivery service only operates in London (postal areas N, NW, W, SW, SE, E, EC and WC) but if you ARE a city dweller like me, you can sign up and try for free on the Natusan™ website. After your month’s free trial it will cost you just under £30 a month which includes the collection and delivery service, 2 bags of litter (10l and 7l), 1 litter tray, 1 swap tray and a scoop, all in the neat delivery bag.
There’s a new service from Natusan™ too where you can just order the litter with a monthly collection and disposal – starting at £19.99. For some owners – perhaps those with larger cats or ones who don’t like the enclosed tray, it would be a brilliant alternative. Or if you have your own ‘designer litter tray’ already, as a lot of London households will do.
The whole offer definitely ticks a lot of boxes for me – hassle-free, odour-free and low mess cat litter that helps save the planet…and most importantly Lena loves it!
