Nederburg Wine for a Good Cause:
It’s right at the end of the Tesco campaign with Premium South African winery, Nederburg. The winery is working to improve the lives of local people by donating 5p from each bottle sold of selected Nederburg 56 Hundred wines in Tesco, £5.75, as part of the #Do Your Part campaign running to 31st January.
The #Do Your Part Campaign with Tesco works to raise money to build bikes at the Nederburg winery for local people. This will help provide cycles for people in local communities so they can access education, healthcare and jobs. In other words, they won’t have to walk long distances and life will be so much easier and better. South African wine producer Nederburg teamed up with the charity Qhubeka to establish this bicycle assembly facility in the Western Cape. The bottles have neck collars which include details of how to win the Cervelo bike.
Meanwhile, Simon tried the wine and reports back
The South African Nederburg 56 Hundred Pinot Noir 2016 is a good value Pinot wine, more suited to the warmer summer months than the cold of winter. It is named in honour of Philippus Wolvaart who paid 5600 guilders for the land he was to call Nederburg in 1781
It is a simple, easy drinking wine with ripe fruity flavours, sweet spice and aromas of cherry and strawberry. It has been oaked for 3 months at cellar temperatures resulting in a very soft and smooth body whilst maintaining a nice deep colour.
It will be best taken with pork, turkey or light meats, and has the ability to show its brightness when paired with marinades or honey glaze. A traditional Mediterranean pizza will work perfectly too.
The lighter Pinot Noir doesn’t have to be decanted, but aerating it does help to bring out the lighter cherry aromas, so don’t be afraid to pour it generously into the glass and swirl it around. It will add to the experience.
So, why not pop along to Tesco and see if you can pick up a bottle today! It’s all in a good cause
