Pasta Remoli – A taste of Italy in Westfield Stratford
Nestled away in the quieter “foodie” end of Westfield in Stratford is a new edition to the food hall. Pasta Remoli offers high end, handmade pasta which is paired with a delicious homemade sauce of your choice. Essentially, this is a mix and match service tailored to your individual taste. On a recent trip with my husband, we sampled two very satisfying plates, served by an extremely friendly and helpful server. As this was January and I was trying to eat (reasonably) healthily during the week, I opted for a vegetarian pasta; the classic Arrabbiata paired with fusilli. The pasta was served al dente and the sauce had a sufficient kick to it, without blowing your head off! My husband has been a big fan of pappardelle since we visited Tuscany a couple of years ago, so he ordered a portion which was covered in a rich and creamy mushroom and pancetta sauce. Not since Tuscany has he tasted anything to compare!
Not forgetting that this restaurant is in the middle of a shopping mall, it is a simple, no frills establishment. You order from the counter and take a seat at the wooden benches out front. The server then brings your food to you.
As well as the pasta dishes there are a selection of sides which come in the form of salads or bread and oil. There is a reasonable drinks menu including a red and white wine. I sampled the red, which was pretty decent. To keep in the Italian theme, my husband had a Peroni!
There isn’t much in the way of a dessert menu but we did try the homemade tiramisu (made in the sister restaurant in Finsbury Park). I can honestly say that this was one of the best I’ve ever tasted.
So should you find yourself shopping in Westfield and fancy something other than a jacket potato or fried chicken for your lunch, take a walk to the food market down the very end of the mall and sample some authentic Italian cooking.
