Pennsylvania Castle EstatePennsylvania Castle Estate, one of the South West’s most spectacular destinations, overlooks the sea from the clifftops of the Isle of Portland. This dramatic neo-gothic Castle has a unique history, one that has seen celebrities, royalty and politicians gather in its grounds and marvel at the view. Previously only available for private hire – weddings, events, corporate retreats, the Castle is soon to launch a luxury B&B service, allowing guests to enjoy all the Castle has to offer without hiring it in its entirety.
B&B at The Penn is set to offer all of the luxuries that the Castle is renowned for, guests are encouraged to explore the Castle and its ground, enjoy the stunning reception rooms, or wander down to the beautiful Church Ope Cove – known only to locals and many years ago pirates!
The service will provide breakfast hampers of homemade treats from muffins to yoghurts, fresh fruit, jams and breads with teas and coffees provided in the rooms. On booking, guests can also arrange for a home cooked supper to be left for them in The Penn’s grand kitchen, simply pop in the oven and re-heat. An honesty bar in the Castle’s circular library will offer a range of spirits, wines and beers, with The Penn’s extensive Wine Cellar available to order from as well.
For guests looking to remain active during their stay, not only is Portland famous for its water sports – sailing, diving, kite-surfing, windsurfing and paddle boarding, but the Estate offers the latest Pelaton gym equipment, yoga deck, bikes and access to the pool when open throughout the spring, autumn and winter months.
The Isle of Portland juts out into the English Channel, and part of the Jurassic Coast is a small island of great history and a rugged coastline. The beautiful Portland lighthouse, historic Portland stone quarries and D Day Centre at Castletown offer some insight into the Island’s unique past. The Penn itself is situated on the South West Coast Path, attracting walkers and cyclists throughout the year, with the Estate being Visit England Cyclists and Walkers accredited. Sunsets can be enjoyed down on Chesil Beach before returning back to The Castle to watch the moon rise over the Channel.
Portland is home to the British Sailing Academy, the Jurassic Coast is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and exciting developments are taking place on the Island with the Eden Project. The perfect location for a staycation that feels like you have escaped the hustle and bustle of daily life, luxury B&B at The Penn is set to be very popular this summer.
