Friendsmas Feast kits supporting Hospitality Action
Christmas may have been a bit different this year but there have been plenty of people trying to ensure that it was still was a fun one. These past months especially during lockdown I’ve been really enjoying trying out new dishes and making fun cocktails at home, there have been some great home delivery food and cocktail kits available; a real hit over lockdown with chefs and restaurants successfully responding to the difficult climate they are in.
I was thrilled to hear that Grey Goose vodka and the much-loved foodie duo, Giz ‘n’ Green (Gizzi Erskine and Professor Green) were collaborating to create Friendsmas Feast kits delivered to your door with the lovely idea of donating all proceeds made from the kits to Hospitality Action, a charity that supports a range of services to help hospitality workers get back on their feet during challenging times. It continues to be a really tough time for people working in the hospitality industry, with so many hotels, restaurants and bars struggling with further lockdowns and tier restrictions. Many have had to close their doors for good and let loyal staff go so it’s great to see the industry helping each other out and it also gives the public a chance to do their bit.
Some of you may know Professor Green better as an award-winning rapper and musician rather than as culinary chap, but he’s a busy man, as well as being a TV personality and a patron of charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), he has paired up with Gizzi Erskine to create Giz ‘n’ Green. Gizzi is an award-winning food writer, author and chef, who most recently took over the restaurant at St. Martin’s Lane Hotel with her concept ‘The Nitery’ and has just published her seventh cookery book ‘Restore’.
Giz ‘n’ Green was born during the first lockdown, from the frustration of not being able to buy some of the nation’s most loved takeaway food, which I suspect many people will relate to. So whilst Gizzi was isolating in East London and Professor Green shielding in Morocco, they started a weekly Instagram live series ‘Giz ‘n’ Green’s Monday Night Fakeaway’ Gizzi would talk through recipes step-by-step allowing Stephen and both of their many followers to recreate their favourite fast food at home. It was a huge success so over the summer together they opened a sell-out Giz ‘n’ Green pop-up restaurant at Passo restaurant in Old Street with the aim of encouraging customers back and helping out the supply chains.
Apparently almost a third (29%) of Brits claim they won’t be hosting a ‘traditional’ Christmas Turkey meal this year and 1 in 5 of us are planning a virtual cocktail party, so it’s the perfect time to embrace new traditions. Why not try something new, a cocktail perhaps or a Christmas mash-up? I happen to love Grey Goose vodka so trying out a couple of new vodka inspired cocktails was a real pleasure.
My kit definitely added a bit of festive cheer to my day. A fabulous blue box arrived with a full-size bottle of my favourite Grey Goose vodka and everything I needed to make two different fun shake n sip vodka cocktails, a recipe card and all the ingredients needed for an exciting Giz ‘n’ Green curated three-course Grey Goose vodka-infused Christmas dinner with a couple of Grey Goose Christmas crackers.

Before dining, we kicked off with warming spiced gingerbread man cocktails, a combination of Grey Goose vodka and spiced gingerbread and maple soda, decorated with a cute gingerbread man, with garnish provided to decorate.
First Course: Tater Tots & Pigs in Blanket Poutine, – a scrumptious Christmas mash-up with pigs in blankets, potatoes, turkey gravy, and GREY GOOSE® vodka cranberry sauce, bread sauce and chives.
Main: Christmas Turkey Towers, an indulgent festive style burger with southern fried turkey fillet, sage and onion sausage patty, GREY GOOSE® vodka cranberry sauce, bread sauce mayo, cheese, brussels sprout slaw, served in a brioche bun.
And finally, pudding: Deep Fried Mince Pies with marmalade and GREY GOOSE® vodka Chantilly Cream. Not great for the waistline but utterly delicious!
And then the perfect end to the meal with another a twist on Christmas – a trip down ‘Candy Cane Lane’ with some fabulous Espresso Martini cocktails which had a crushed peppermint candy cane rim. Not only did they look pretty but they tasted delicious.
All proceeds from the Friendsmas Feast kits were donated to Hospitality Action.
